Exactly. I don't understand why they are trying to push the sporting contest narrative rather than just call it what it is. I really do think they are overestimating the popularity of this event. This is nowhere near the Mayweather v Mcgregor event in the sense of star power plus the novelty factor is gone now. Ngannu's highest PPV buyrate in the US was 350k and since then his not been fighting and is out of the MMA picture when it comes to eyeballs. The timezone difference will also effect the US market
Saudi are 3 hours ahead. The question is who do you cater for - the UK market or US market? If you want to make serious bank go with the US market. Regardless, alot of people will buy this fight. They need to make the fight easily accessible as possible meaning provide a movie theatre experience (An option) - people like a night out, can't go wrong watching it on the big screen (Not everyone has cable or satellite) Cover ALL the bases. Fly over an American singer, which would bring more eyes, & invite someone like Elon Musk (Talk biz, watch the fight etc). Man got 147 million Twitter followers) I'm sure they will get it right on the night. Preparation preparation preparation as they say.
I feel exactly the same. I think this is going to flop big time. Hardcore boxing fans won’t pay for this and Ngannu simply isn’t well known enough / charismatic enough to sell this fight to the casuals. I think most people just think of this as yet another exhibition fight whether it is or not.
Some people just don't believe in momentum Go with a 20 man entourage + security. Stir things up. Little fracas will help the promotion.
Commercially I expect it to be a failure, but the Saudi’s probably won’t care much and we’ll never know what the damage is.
I hope you are right. I'd love to see this flop big time. And even better if Joshua and Usyk shut Fury out and left him trying to chase big money against bums. Fury has done a great job of ruining his popularity. He was flying hight after the 3 Wilder fights and Joshua's star pulling power had faded. Fast forward a year or so and Fury has blown it with his lazy fight the easiest option attitude. He has shown everyone what a greedy, lying deluded clown he really is. He says England should get behind their fighter but he has shown no loyalty to his English fans whatsoever. In the early days he played upto his Irish roots. Then when he failed a drugs test he took off for America where he draped himself in stars and Stripes, singing American pie after fights and said he would never fight in UK again. He only came back to fight in UK because he's banned from America. When he's in Saudi he wears the full clothing looking like a Saudi prince.... He has no shame or morals, just goes where the biggest money is
The void left with the ban of soldier boy means there is a slot left on the board for the most idiotic moronic poster which seems to have been filled seamlessly. Didn’t think it was possible to get to that level but obviously not.
My favourite part was where Warren states that fury is the money man of the division and the cash cow before then two minutes later saying he can’t fight makmudov as it isn’t an event and nobody knows who he is. Why does that matter when you have the money man of the division in the fight? Also at the end when asked if we will get the undisputed fight next? “It depends who has the belts”. Basically if DDD somehow pulls off an upset then it will get made straight away, if it’s Usyk then no.
At least McGregor can speak English and was probably the biggest star in combat sport. Ngannou isn’t even well known, doesn’t speak that good English and the fight won’t be show at American time.
Yeah course they have. Warren even says in the interview that they knew Joshua didn’t even have a trainer when they made the offer for the December fight (was common knowledge anyway) so why make the “offer”? It’s pretty obvious a fight isn’t going to get made when one of them doesn’t even have a trainer, shows exactly how serious they were about making the fight.
The only way this fight is exciting is if Ngannou doesn't play by the rules and during that period has enough time to properly mess Tyson up, open up that old cut, create a new one, just do something that will hamper his future boxing career and make him realise that this is a mistake. It won't happen though, the script was probably written a year ago.
