Which is pretty much like saying a particular woman only wins a beauty contest because she's good looking. I've heard this line about Tyson Fury a lot and it's absolutely ridiculous.
When he fights like he did against Cunningham, that statement is completely true, although he does have a good jab (which he demonstrated against Johnson), although that often comes with size! Having said that, he' probably better than, say Valuev ever was, so I see your point
He has the perfect attributes to be good. But often doesn't use them as he should. He could fight smaller guys and beat them with his jab all night long. He loves scrap though and leaves himself wide open. As David Haye will demonstrate in about 2 rounds!
Not really the same thing at all really. If someone said "Andre Ward is only good because he's so skilled", that'd be the same as your comparison. P4P Tyson Fury just isn't very good compared to other professional boxers is what they mean. His height and stature far outweigh his ability.
The analogy does work, physical attributes give both the boxer and the beauty queen an edge in their particular field. If you don't want to fight big scary men, don't fight at heavyweight.
No, saying Tyson Fury is only good because he's big is like saying the woman only wins the beauty contest because she has big tits. Big tits can be enhance beauty, but there is far more than being a beautiful woman than having large breasts - just like there is far more to being a good boxer than being big. A woman with large breasts, a pretty face and a nice figure is far more complete than one who simply has big tits. Just like a boxer with good skills, a good boxing brain and size is better than one who is just a big man. Why the **** did I just write all that.
People moan about him being good because he's big, well so what, if he's knocking people out, who's bothered. I honestly don't know why some boxing fans watch boxing, they treat it like an episode of corrie, they'd be better off with WWE.
Probably the last 21 people he's beaten. I don't think he'll be an ATG but he is good and he will get KO'd at some point.
He is big - you are allowed to be big He can and has beat smaller decent, capable, ranked fighters by staying on the back foot and jabbing. The thing is he likes a tear up and he wants to knock people out and he is recklessly convinced by his own ability to do it. I am a fan. Don't expect Tyson to come out swinging against Haye with his chin in the air. Tyson has shown he can fight in more than one way and can even adapt mid-fight. He wanted to dominate Cunningham and make a name for himself with an early KO, that was the objective that night, a points win wasn't going to be enough. Against Haye any kind of win will lead to a title shot, this is a massive fight. Tyson will likely try and fight Haye exactly like Wlad did in the early rounds. That is to say cautiously behind the jab, using his height and weight, occasional following the jab with an iron rod straight right. If he does that then maybe Haye will start to gas and Tyson will be able to bully him later on. Having said all that I am backing Haye to knock him out because Haye's feet and hands are simply too fast.
I'm the only one in my gym that thinks Fury has the skill to win a world title. But I was the only one in the gym that said Thompson would KO'S Price.
I was thinking exactly that about the Haye - Chisora fight. Chisora got lured in a a tear up and he came a cropper for it. Haye looked to be gassing and desperate before he KO'd Chisora, had Derek not been a plonker and had a better game plan I think he could have beaten David in the later rounds like the Carl Thompson fight. Great post sunny.
