Lets make Joshua 4"11 then. LOL

I personally never rated Fury that much but he surprised me against Wladimir. He looked bloody good in that fight. faster than I ever seen him before.

Is looking like "a 1910 fighter" a criticism or a compliment? :shakehead:

For me, saying that things have evolved is not the same saying that past fighters were ****. Far from it. Things get so black and white in these discussions. It just natural for me that new generationens of practitioners within a sport learn from earlier generations and continually evolve what they did. To say that Djokovic's technique is more advanced than the 1910 or 1920 Wimbledon winner is not the same as saying that that winner was ****. He clearly was very skilled, it's just that the best of today are more skilled.

Yes, I do agree with that. But it probably doesn't extend to you or whoever you're sparring with (apologies if you're a top fighter), or even to a fairly good standard of professional. The best were still the best and would be very good today. The 1920 Wimbledon champion (Bill Tilden) would probably win some trophies today. I don't know how high he'd be ranked but he'd do good somewhere, he'd be more than a weekend club player.
Tyson Fury's peak performance is 2015. I'm not convinced he's getting away with poor or "primitive" techniques based on size, in an era we both agree is packed full of men with "evolved" skills. There are 6'8 and 6'9 heavyweights who are terrible. Fury was #1 in the world in the modern era so I reckon he's doing plenty right.
It's an interesting discussion though. I obviously rate Fury's technique a lot higher than you do, and that's the crux of it.

I don't know. I think I missed something regarding the intentions of reznick starting this thread. I believe he was making a point in some other ongoing debate but couldn't work out which side of the debate he was taking, nor the precise nature of the debate.

When I say that Fury has poor technique I mean relative to the top guys in the lower weight classes. Just not to create the impression that I think anyone who has trained for a while could do it better. Fury definitely has skills and he seems to be a very smart, tricky fighter.

But I don't think he'd be getting away with what he is doing if he wasn't a HW and an unusually large one. The lower you get in the weight classes, the more sound the fundamentals get. At LHW and even SMW you still have the odd top fighter with a loose style, not too dissimilar to Fury's. I'd never say to a beginner to fight like Froch or Pascal for example, but they obviously made it work for them.

But getting below MW and WW there's always none of that. No hands ar the waist or leaning back. That's not say they're all technically perfect, but it is pretty clear that you have to have a reasonably disciplined guard to be successful. Naz was the exception to the rule for a while, but that was something almost unique. That is because you can't get away with the same things fighting a quick 130 lbs guy throwing four, five punch combinations as you can against 240-250 lbs giant throwing one right at a time behind a pawing left hand.
