Boxing fans love to come up with this arbitrary criterion when it suits.

Then in the next breath they will dismiss Wilder's title defences because they deem his opposition less than satisfactory. But of course, Joshua is immune from criticism in that regard, winning and defending the belt(s) against the likes of Martin, Molina, Takam, Breazeale, Pulev and co.

The truth is that it doesn't matter when you beat someone. It's the names on the record that matter.

Adding up some questionable opposition that Hearn has drummed into the mentally challenged as if it results in some kind of impressive cumulative total that bests the weighted value of beating a defending champion Klitschko in Germany and Wilder in the states twice, does not really hold much water whatever way you swing it.

Fury is a master of the mind games because he has no front/facade when the real talk starts.

The showy brash facade falls back to a very serious but not delusional fighter. It catches people off guard. They get uncomfortable about how they should act, normally talking themselves into a hole. They see Fury's raw real confidence and it puts them on edge.

Add the natural reaction to seeing a bigger man as a physical threat.

Fury will also pick up on any kind of tells that you aren't comfortable or acting within yourself. AJ & Wilder tend to fall victim to this. Very easily.

Chisora acts himself but tries to put an intimidation job on people. Fury did not back down and put the intimidation back onto Chisora who quickly understood he couldn't mess with Fury like others.

Wlad tries to belittle opponents. Didn't work on Fury.

Fury can take a "don't take myself seriously" deprecating humor approach. It shows he is calm and doesn't really care, can make a joke out of it whilst the opponent is trying to get a rise out of him.

You can visibly & hear Haye trying really hard to get his lines out and almost trips up. Haye gets caught off guard when Fury nonchalantly agrees with him.

The real thing that REALLY REALLY makes people squirm is when Fury starts dropping historic HW boxing knowledge off the cuff without even thinking. This man is a boxing historian. Haye didn't expect him to talk about his quit job back in the day.

 

You think Fury gives a damn if a fan doesn't like him? What's he gonna do...beat up a regular person?? no...
