Has nothing to do w/ the gay aspect. I had to do wrestling as a pe class in high and just didn't like that feeling. Don't like getting punched in the face either but can accept it more. I also tried karate as a kid and hated touching another persons bare feet. Man or woman. As a viewer I'm also just bored when it goes to the ground. Not afraid to say I don't **** about it when goes on the ground ppl like joe rogan are saying there's a lot of intricate things going on there.
MMA is a great sport. I think that any fan of boxing should be a fight fan in general and enjoy watching good fights whether it be skill or guts. Anderson Silva is probably the most technical MMA fighter as of now. He only utilizes jiu-jitsu when on the ground, and nice kickboxing when upright, has defended his title around 10 times, most consecutive wins in UFC history. This man has defended his title against fighters that were roided up to the max. Amazing.
Boxing takes more skill and is more difficult. Not that MMA isn't difficult and doesn't have its share of respectable athletes (I'll take our best over there's any day). Mainly for me it's more aesthetically pleasing, and nothing beats the ebb & flows of a 12 round fight. Well except for a 15 round boxing match.
Bernard Hopkins used to hate MMA, but he changed his mind and learnt the error of his ways. It's a sport that requires dedication and whilst 5 rounds is short, it increases the longevity of the fighters and allows for much more action in the fight. Smart move in my view.
As a big fan of boxing, I really enjoy Bellator MMA. It seems 80% of the fights are standing, most are more in shape than a lot of UFC/ Ex-Strikeforce fighters (maybe because they don't make as much $ and there seems to be good competition regulary). I enjoy boxing more, and I get bored as heck watching two guys LAY on the ground. If there working there way to mount the guy, to rain down blows, OR really going hard for a sub.. I don't mind. You definitely have to be in good shape to compete in MMA at the highest level, and have to work standing/ ground work.. Which is why they typically aren't as capable with there hands as a boxer. I give them credit, but I am sure if some of them could have made it in boxing (such as Anderson Silva tryed) then they would be doing that and earning bigger paydays.
But there are also boring-ass boxing matches as well. That's a fact. It goes both ways. Anyway, I say check out the Dan Henderson vs Shogun Rua fight for an exciting 15 round boxing equivalent in MMA. There has been some amazing match ups in MMA.
In a fight? Street fight or the likes, (no holds barred) you'd take a boxer over a Mixed Martial Artist? I don't know about that, just my opinion. Yeah its completely fine that you'd rather watch boxing, I've got nothing against that. Of course I have to question that boxing takes more skill and is more difficult. Both have difficult aspects; you don't think it'd be hard to learn standing as well as clinch, transitioning to the ground, then ground work? i understand people not wanting to watch it but its not easy to do.
This is well thought out. Another point to ponder is that, while they also have to train kicking and wrestling, they also have to worry about it. Its easier to keep your head and body safe than it is their whole body, and I think they'd rather just watch their opponents hands and perhaps hips, rather than worrying about a kick or a takedown once they block.
Give fury 3 months of grappling training and he would ray mercer cain in 30 seconds. These MMA scrubs can't fight, can't take a punch. Tyson fury isn't even a good boxer. Look how butthurt the little MMA dweebs are http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/mma.cfm?go=forum.posts&forum=1&thread=2163159&page=1
This is exactly the way I feel. When these MMA guys are standing up and trading punches, it can be exciting. But when they start rolling around on the ground, it's boring beyond belief.
mma isnt quite as lnp orientated as it was in the past, well in mind. A few years ago I bought a few PPV's and was kinda pissed because just about every fight ended up on the ground....and stayed there Nowadays the momentum has picked up.. Doesnt fury have a fight coming up in the US soon ? sounds like hes building up hype for himself.
The people that only watch Mayweather and Pacman are casual fans like yourself (when it comes to MMA). Over the fast few years every JJ and GSP fight has gone to the ground. GSP is a grinder and I don't find that style exciting either :good Boxing is a skill, but to be a Mixed Martial Artist you have to have many skills. I never agreed with this statement. You may want to take a peak at this thread http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=369871 Anderson Silva started out training Jiu Jitsu, TKD, and eventually MT... He didn't compete in Boxing until years later. He is making plenty of money, but ask him if he got into this because of the money :deal. Of course there is more money to be made, but with bigger paydays comes more brain damage, corruption, and politics. I believe if Anderson Silva really made it in MT that his career would have went for longer, but it's not about the money when it comes to these other Combat Sports. It's a Great thing because money is the root of all evil :!:. In times like this, Boxing needs a fighter like Tyson Fury, he knows that fight fans are more interested in Mixed Martial Arts nowadays.
