He works far harder than people make out and his body mass is a bit misleading. He doesn't have the discipline of say a Mayweather or a Uysk clearly though.

Fury’s father was a pro fighter, while family are into boxing, started young and was around boxing his whole life with a career as the intention….there wasn’t much else he was going to be.

It’s quite a privileged start to the sport, what more could one ask for?

Only really did that when he got the ban and spent years off.
Vast majority of fighters put on weight inbetween fights. Most do. Only like the b-hops, hagglers etc don’t much.
It’s relative though, with Heavyweights it’s more than feathers

for example. Hatton was bad for it.

Yeah he claimed 2 pints but on another occasion he claimed 4 pints. BS was all the band could play.

Nah. See how he balooned between Chisora III and Ngannou. He also balooned after Usyk I. He did that between Wilder II and III as well. It's a pattern.

Fury's looked in good shape in 2018-2020 then a bit worse after that bar the first Uysk fight and the Whyte fight.

There is a bit a pattern in 2018-2020 he was highly motivated to prove himself again. He is a guy that struggles mentally but still people do overstate it sometimes.

Yup, I agree with that. I also think he was off the columbian white in that period as well. Then the pandemic came.

Forever relegated to "second best" has to sting, even if he beats AJ and Dubois or some contenders from now on, so did Usyk. !

I'm not sure I'd agree that he 'never took boxing seriously.' I think he trained pretty hard, accepted it was his career and, genetically, was never going to be the body beautiful type.
For me, it's three issues... 1) He obviously doesn't live the life outside the ring 2) He took some fights less seriously than others (Ngannou for example), and 3) He seemed not to want to push himself as hard as he could, in terms of career opposition and wilfully seeking out the toughest challenges.
So, on balance, I think he *MIGHT* have been able to achieve more with greater discipline. But that's subjective as that's obviously not who he is. He is an erratic character. And many fighters don't live the life ... do we lament also about what could have been achieved Hatton, Mike Tyson etc? The list is very long.
And even if he did live like a Spartan would he also be willing to push himself in the ring - in terms of constant tough challenges - to maximise that potential? I'm not so sure.

Fury has “lived” boxing more than probably every other heavyweight right now.

He didn’t walk out the pub a fighter

Tyson Fury just wanted to fight and from bieng that massive kid to a young pro, getting men in the ring was very hard to fight was very hard. He had to do it the hard way. The leaps he made in his ability year on year are remarkable. In fact I don't think ANY heavyweight in history has improved and changed as many times as Tyson Fury has. He has a natural gift for boxing. It's a shame he wasn't disciplined and his body started to falter just as it seemed like he hit a prime in 2020. He did his best and he does have mental health issues regardless of the naysayers.
