They both have increased exposure in the US following their first fight. Might not make sense from a boxing perspective, but probably does from a business one if they both get out again on US tv before a rematch.
Should help drive revenues, just like that warmup between Tommy Morrison and Michael Bennt did for the Lennox Lewis fight: This content is protected
A bit harsh as it is universally accepted he won the first fight. He was robbed on the night and don't believe he owes Wilder or his handlers anything.
I know mate, I don’t like saying it and as you know, I believe Fury won that fight easily. However, he shouldn’t allow boxing politics to get in the way of fulfilling his legacy, that WBC belt should be his and he should go and box Wilder’s head off to get it. The WBC have ordered it, Wilder can’t back out of it without getting stripped so Fury should grab this opportunity with both hands. I don’t want to hear talk of him not being bothered if he doesn’t fight Wilder/AJ. I believe he’s the best of the 3 but he has to go and prove it.
I dont either. Apparently Arum thinks it generates more money later in the year and maybe if he showcases fury in an interim fight , there's some truth in that, I theory. But I just can't get past seeing how if one network wins the purse bid the losing network will let the other fighter fight on that channel. Also isn't the purse bids now about due.? Where does that leave purse bids if they are having intetim fights
It will only be a duck if they pull out of the purse bids or it’s won by another company so they refuse the fight. For someone who is not world champion to refuse a world title fight and what will be a career high payday it would be hard to argue that it’s not a duck. But at present there’s nothing to indicate the above happens, so let’s wait and see. If it does then it’s inexcusable.
I disagree. I don't see it as a duck as he won the first fight. With Fury's popularity increasing and Joshua's decreasing his self worth in a percentage split is going up by the day. Fury is the man of the division the pressure is on the other two to get him in the ring. how about Joshua step up to the plate and fight either Wilder or Fury? Fury don't need either of them they need him now. He is the man of the division.
Fury isn’t the man of the division. He didn’t win the first fight, it was a draw. He doesn’t hold a belt. Joshua has a fight already. Joshua and Wilder don’t need him, he needs them. They’re champions, he’s not. Regardless of splits it would be a career high pay day and a world title shot. IF and it’s a MASSIVE IF, he pulls out then it’s a duck. It’s inexcusable.
Peoples champ and Lineal champ. Respect means more than money and belts. No Duck as he has already beaten him. Boxing fans know.
Thats crazy..im a massive Fury fan and its all good and well saying he won the fight...but he didnt did he. It was a draw. Yes i thought Fury won but wasnt surprised it was a draw. It could of went either way. Go back and watch the fight without bias to one fighter. It was close. Fury isnt the main man in this division yet...we all know who is the champ, the main man. Lets not pretend otherwise. Please from one fan of Fury to another, dont act like you dont want the rematch to happen..it was so close they have to get it on again to settle it all. I dont want or care to see either man fight before the rematch.
Does anyone else think if Fury / Top Rank / ESPN win purse bids that Wilder could vacate? Haymon would not want Wilder fighting on another channel, and he has previously paid his own champions to vacate. I can't remember too many recent examples but he paid Peter Quillin back in the day to vacate his Middleweight belt.
He’s held that belt hostage for years. There’s not a chance he vacates. Where does that get him? In reality, nobody has a clue what’s going to happen. Purse bids were scheduled two weeks ago today, how long was the delay?
About the ESPN deal: Wilder spoke the last weeks over and over again he was robbed in the first fight and the main reason was the ref Jack Reiss because he gave Fury too much time to recover. Wilder also said he and Finkel will never allow Reiss again and are looking for a "real referee". So i do understand why Warren and Fury want a backup in the USA because if Wilder s team can chose the judges, the ref, the gloves and the size of the ring, a replay of the first fight is possible if they go to the judges again. And if Fury would get knocked down again, a ref like "must go bay" Bayless will stop the fight immediately.
