Fury was ready to face Usyk in December, which is far from an unprecedented turnover — for instance, Oscar De La Hoya went from Oba Carr on May 22 of 1999 to a unification with Félix Trinidad on September 18 of the same year, a turnover of 119 days, the exact number of days between August 20 and the proposed December 17 date for Fury-Usyk. Usyk wanted the extra time for R&R, which is fine, but the blame can't reasonably be laid at Fury's door for the bout not having materialized this year.
