greynotsoold, in this post called it "immersion." https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...d-despite-terrible-long-time-trainers.599412/ He meant kids whose fathers are boxers or trainers and who grow up around boxers and gyms and their fathers prepare them almost from birth to be a fighter.

That and being 6'9", is probably what separates Tyson Fury from most other heavyweights in terms of ability. People like Fury, Shane Mosley, RJJ, Chris Byrd, FMJ, Lomachenko, and Buster Douglas have been in and around the gym and boxers their entire lives. They acquire boxing knowledge from a young age, they might not box or train until later in life, but when they do, they seem to be able to do things that others have to try to learn. Some people call it "natural ability" but "immersion" probably describes it best.

I recently wrote a post in the British boxing forum. About how I recently discovered Tyson Fury. He has definitely got some magic about him which has a boxing fan I love to watch. He might be flawed but I find his skill fascinating. Same too with Wilder, flawed but capable of sublime crazy punching. All great boxers are special and unique, that's why we all love the game.

Wlad wasn't injured against Joshua and his wife didn't have post pregnancy depression when he fought Joshua. Which is why he was able to prepare better for that fight. Yet, even against Joshua, he still looked past his best. A 39 or 41 year old athlete isn't going to be at their very best. Especially in a combat sport or an athletic sport like boxing.

Don't believe me? Wait until Fury is also 39 or 41 years old and then come back to me!

lol , the guy who prepared to fight truck driving Leapai like he was mike Tyson , underprepared against the guy his own trainer said would be the future HW Champion????? lololol

Lemmie tell ya something boychik , Wlad was motivated to win that fight more than any other during his entire professional career. Why? ...

    1) Wlad never underestimates anybody .

    2) His trainer and mentor - Manny Steward said Tyson Fury was the future HW Champion of the World so he was well aware of his potential

    3) His assistant trainer at the time - Ali Bashir called it a "50/50" fight and warned Wlad how difficult Fury would be so he clearly took the fight extremely seriously. He was so worried in fact , he tried to cheat Fury sponging the canvas in order to limit his movement.

    4) Breaking Larry Holmes record for title defenses was on the line so it was a huge legacy defining fight for Wlad and Wlad was obsessed with his legacy.

    5) WK desperately wanted to shut Fury's mouth with his fists for all his pre-fight antics and get him back for the loss he took to him in the sauna.

    Underprepared ?? :confundio:..... :cbiggrin::jaja-no:

That excuse is almost as sad as the excuse that Wlad lost the fight on purpose.. :laufband::nut:

Wlad had shoulder injuries + his wife had post pregnancy depression + Tyson Fury was a mandatory challenger + he was 39 years old. If you can't figure out why that wasn't the best version of Wladimir Klitschko against Fury, then I can't help you.

What did you expect? He'd never eventually lose? Everyone's time eventually runs out and that's pretty much what happened.

    Pitiful excuse.

Furys wife announced she was pregnant on fight week so imagine what was going through his head especially considering she tragically miscarried last time. That was a far heavier load for Fury to deal with which proves he was mentally stronger than Wlad , as well as being a better boxer

An all time great didn't lay a glove on him. He moved his head from the first minute to the last. Stupid question.

He didn`t move as fast as Ali and he should have thrown a lot more jabs and landed them also because of his reach advantage, he didn`t throw enough counter jabs either, Mike Tyson and Paterson had brilliant counter jabs I don`t know if they could of used them on a fighter with Fury`s reach though, that`s not skill it`s genetics just ask Joseph Parker about reach and negativity.

Because Wlad was champion and hadn't lost in ten years. Because Fury was only 27, a pup for a man of his size and years before his prime. Because it was in Germany. Because he completely immobilized Wlad's attack with his elite head movement and footwork. Because it was a wide decision loss for Wlad, unheard of in his career.

    Should I go on?

Fury wasn't a 10 year reigning champion fighting top opponents for 10 years. So that's a false equivalence fallacy. It's much more difficult to deal with adversity at an older age.

A 39 year old person has greater responsibilities outside of boxing. A 27 year old person is usually in the prime of their lives. Where they can more easily focus on their career and have less outside distraction.

Wlad had already accomplished what he needed to accomplish in his career by then. Beating Fury would prove very little. The younger man is expected to be more motivated than the older man.

Great! Fury has one win over an aging former champion. What else has he done? That's right! Absolutely nothing! Thus, he's proven very little!

You don't need to! None of that is very impressive until Fury himself can prove he could do better at age 39 than what Wlad did. Otherwise, it's a one off victory which proves pretty much nothing what so ever!

Fury beat Wlad at age 39? Journeymen and bums beat past heavyweight all time great champions by that same age. So should that mean they are also the most talented boxers ever?

At least Danny Williams KO'ed a 39 year old Mike Tyson. Fury couldn't KO Wlad. Ergo, Danny Williams > Fury.

At least James Toney stopped 39 year old Holyfield. Fury couldn't stop Wlad. Ergo, James Toney > Fury.

Vitali Klitschko retired a 37 year old Lennox Lewis who didn't want a rematch a year later.

So if anything, Fury is least impressive! Fury didn't do anything special by beating a 39 year old Wladimir Klitshcko. He did what's expected. 39 year old boxers are meant to be losing against the top opponents 10+ years younger.
