fury is 3/4 years away from being world class, in terms of ring smarts and physicallity

he still carries a lot of puppy fat and pulls his chin back a bit too much when defending

he does however have a good fighters attitude and can already put his punches together better than the vast majority of big guys. hes keen to learn and is displaying this by seeking out the best sparring he can in germany and america. lets give him a chance

As big as Tyson Fury is, if he were to start building muscle and losing all that soft pudgey body fat, he may develop into a powerhouse of a puncher.

And being as big as he is, if he were to be able to further develop his skills, he may be quite a heavywieght prospect...

He's certainly young enough to greatly improve his skills and develop his musculature.

Exactly. In today's era I wouldn't be surprised if Cooney were a long-reigning beltholder. He's certainly better than a lot of heavies that have won belts this decade (Maskaev, Chagaev, Byrd, Peter, Rahman's 2nd reign, Liakhovich, Brewster, Ruiz, etc.)

ok i havent read any of the other post repliez in this thread yet and im guessin peoplez are makin all kindz of unrelated repliez and general put downz of all differnet directionz and pointz

    however

i recently took the time to watch two of tyson furyz fightz (not his very last one but a couple of the onez right before that, lol) anyho, this is how stupid i am cuss i read his dad had named him tyson after tyson i when first readin bout him a year or so back waz so disinterested that i someho stopped readin about him assumin he waz a short muscular powerful framed guy like tyson as the articule i waz readin waz readin basically like a advertisment for this super young powerful heavyweight

so anywazy waznt until i saw his fightz a few monthz back that i found out the guy is close to 6 foot 9 and has fairly skinny armz for hiz frame (nit pickin of course, skinny for a boxer more accurately) and the truth waz the first guy that he reminded me of within two secondz of seeing him throw hiz left hook waz jerry cooney lmao

anyho i thought i would endorse ur thread juzt incase no body else said anythin agreeing with you cuss bein a old ******* myself i saw cooney live a few timez and plenty o timez on tape and the similarity hit me right away as well

personaly i waz surprised at how far cooney got in hiz career and really think in many wayz he exceeded his toolz overall

no doubt he had a beauty freaking left hook though and i would have to say so does fury

no idea how far fury will go he does ALOT many things REALLY REALLY well for BRIEF timez and then he can go STUPID SLOPPY in an INSTANT and leave himself wide open while all off balanced after tiein his gangly legz all up

does seem to have quite a fightin spirit maybe even too much so i wish him well on his way

his next year should really tell us the writings on the future wall for him

ok my coffee buzz is over off to work

I think he was over-rated, but not as much as you say.

Within one year he beat Lyle, Norton and Young. Even though all of these were past their best, they were still good victories for him.

But the most important thing to note is that if the fight with Holmes were 12 rounds he would have been ahead on 2 cards if he hadn't been deducted so many points for low blows....but that's his fault so we can't go much further with that.

Pretty good for a 20 year old. But we will have to see if he has a chin. I would give him the edge over wlad klitschko already.

He was a solid contender, but fact remains he never beat a ranked top10 guy in his entire life. Norton, Young and Lyle were all done when he got to them, though his destruction of Norton was pretty awesome.

As for being ahead on the cards after 12 rounds against Holmes, i haven't scored the fight, but Holmes won the vast majority on of the rounds and scored a knockdown. If he was ahead after 12 and the bout was scheduled for 12, then it would have been Lewis-Holyfield I except worse... of course in that case Don King couldn't wait to sell the rematch and make another shitload of cash.

Yes he was hyped.. At the end of his career he had pocketed 20 million dollars...
His managers pumped up the idea of a young great WHITE heavyweight, and the public starving for a white champion for the first time since 1960 bought onto the idea.

But he was a good solid boxer, and his power is still counted among the hardest hitting heavies of the last 50 years.

Finally he gave a prime Holmes one hell of a fight, that alone says a lot!!!

I agree that Tyson Fury looks like Cooney...that is the first thing that occured to me when I watched his films.

But I don't think Cooney could have lasted two rounds with a tiger like Klitschko. I don't expect that the slow moving, fleshy, and easy to hit Fury will ever be in the same league as the Klitschkos, either.

In fact, I think that Fury is very much inferior to Andy Price as a talent. Price actually impresses me with his speed and relative fluidity.
