Tyson Furry should hire Manny Steward. What do you think ?

Steward has arguably the best record in the history of sport in heavyweight championship fights, he also improved Lennox Lewis and Wladimir dramatically.

I think it would be a good move, if Furry could afford him

Why because he is flavour of the month ?

Steward has proven to be excellent at maximizing the strengths of tall Heavyweights.

Steward would turn him into a one-dimensional fighter like Wlad, sit behind the reach and the long jab all day on the back foot. Guys like Wlad and Lewis had the big right hand behind it though, I don't think Fury does, and it's certainly not as laser-sharp.

He'd take away Fury's body punching aswell which is a big asset for him as he hits hard to the body. And also Tyson's got good hand speed for a heavy, and putting combinations together will serve him good, something Steward will also take away.

Nothing wrong with being methodical if you keep winning. Wlad fights so conservative because he is protecting a glass chin, that is not Steward's fault.

Larry Holmes was not the most exciting HW either imo.

    Thats my point though.

Fury does not do anything exceptional, he does not have excellent power and if he does keep mixing it with better HW he will be giving them a better chance at beating him by engaging them, why not use your biggest asset which is HEIGHT and an excellent jab ?

As Lennox used to say dont give the man a chance he does'nt have.

I THINK what Tommy is trying to say is that Manny Steward would turn him (being Fury) into something that doesn't suit his skill set. Such as neglecting his body punching and his good combinations. He'd try to turn him into a Wlad or Lennox clone which doesn't necessarily match his style. This isn't to slight Manny because if I was a promoter and I had a HW, I'd probably direct them right to Steward since Eddie Futch isn't around anymore. Just not every big heavy fits the Steward mold as they say.

I can see what you are saying and i agree to an extent, but the reason i think it would benefit him in the long run is because i honestly dont think he is naturally gifted/skilled enough to be that aggressive and keep coming out on top consistently.

Guys like Foreman,Tyson could be as aggressive as they wanted because they had exceptional power and they could intimidate you with that power.

Why stand and fight with someone when you have a reach as big as Fury's ?

Also i think it would suit his skill set because he has already shown he has an excellent left hand and he can counter punch when being backed up.

The key to the Steward arsenal though is a right hand...which according to TommyV (whose seen way more of Tyson than I have), Fury doesn't have a great one.

Still I can't think of a better trainer for Fury at the moment. Maybe Budy McGirt?
