I strongly and respectively disagree. It's not just saying the right things, it's knowing WHEN to say them and HOW to say them, and that's where Wlad would have greatly benefited from having the late great Emanuel in his corner.

I continue to maintain that Emanuel would have seen the writing on the wall as early as the third round and found a way to get through to Wlad where he would have at least been a bit more effective. Would that have been enough for Wlad to beat Fury? I don't know. Perhaps not, because Fury did have a perfect game plan and execution thereof.

 

Fury's low left hand could well be a key if Wlad is to have any chance to win the rematch. Like I said, I won't count Wlad out, but after witnessing that fight, I'm not especially liking his chances if Fury comes in equally good shape for a return bout.

And as for my singing coach... :good

Part of my problem is that I don't HAVE a singing coach. But that won't stop me from singing more songs in the future.

I think he deserves a great deal of credit for his defensive prowess, because he clearly did his homework and utilized a strategy that made Wlad uncomfortable for the full 12 rounds. Prior to this, I have never seen a fight where Wlad was outboxed - ever - unless you count his being blitzkrieged by Sanders. Prior to Fury, the only times I ever recalled seeing Wlad uncomfortable was when he was being physically hurt or knocked around, or when he was exhausted late in fights after dominating.

Point taken, and for sure, Byrd was a slippery fella who wasn't typically easy to land flush on. But even still, particularly in their rematch (which I think is more relevant than discussing pre-Emanuel Wlad), Byrd's head was pretty stationary, and wasn't elusive in the same ways Fury's was.

I think we're on the same page, too.

Wlad usually had, prior to this, no trouble finding the mark on taller or nearly as tall opponents.

I agree with most of what you're saying, even the very last point to some extent.

But I would add that we had never seen Wlad face an opponent who utilized the type of head and upper body movement with good footwork employed by Fury. And that's the reason I was thoroughly impressed with Fury's defensive display.

I'll add that the style utilized by Fury was perfect against Wlad, but would likely be far less successful against other opponents.
