Ingenuine. Why was Lewis to give Mercer another shot? Charity over a close fight? Fact of the matter is, Mercer never put himself fin to position for world title fights. After Lewis, he beat mediocre comp. Then faced Wlad who beat him. Then another run w/ dubious comp. I was a HUGE Mercer fan back in the day. Much more a fan of his then the safety first Lion (Big guys w/ a safety first approach aren't my cup o tea) It's silly to think Lewis at his age was obligated to rematch Vit. A promise right after a fight? You clearly just don't like Lewis, as one can see in what you post and think of him.
So Lewis doesn’t have to give Mercer a rematch because; 1. It wasn’t a title fight. 2. Mercer beat mediocre competition post Lewis not to warrant a rematch? Well iirc Lewis beat a drug addled McCall in ‘97 and Mercer beat Witherspoon who was still ranked at the time and would have been a better opponent or first defence than possibly the worst heavyweight fight I’ve ever seen when he fought Akinwande, Wlad destroyed Mercer 6 years after the Lewis fight. As for Vitali, Lewis said after the Tyson fight and I quote “I’m like a fine wine, getting better with age, no man can test” and I agree he was at 37 still in peak condition and would have carried on his career if he had got to face Kirk Johnson instead of Vitali. What I believe is Vitali gave Lewis his hardest fight since Mercer and was his best opponent since Holyfield, he agreed to a rematch then retired. It is what it is.
You're logic makes no sense. Lewis rematched both guys who KO'd and one was an immediate rematch. If he was so reluctant rematch guys that gave him a hard fight why would he rematch guys that beat him, because beating Lewis is certainly a better feat than giving him a hard night right ? You want to know what actually going on ? Lewis only rematched guys that actually BEAT him. If the rematch is not in the contract whats the point, unless you truly believe you lost or just want to settle the score one final time. Theres nothing stopping Lewis from moving on in his career. Very similar to how Lopez beat Lomachenko in a competitive fight. Because of the fact that he beat Lomachenko and it isn't in the contract there is no reason to fight Loma again and the majority of boxing fans agree that he won anyway. I would love to see a rematch but im not going to get mad if Lopez decides to move on with his career
Why did he need to? Look man,. close fights happen. They don't always require some rematch. That's not hard to see. That's just the grand magic of hindsight. who cares what he says. Jesus christs.... fighters say stuff like that. "I age like fine wine" "I can beat anyone in the world" "I am the greatest and no one can beat me" NONE of those mean anything really. Just a fighter who ups themselves in the eyes of the public. You should know that by now. You're welcome to believe anything you want obviously. But you do NOT get to predict what you think Lewis would have done had he Kirk Johnson. You don't have a crystal ball, you aren't Miss Cleo. But you clearly hate lewis, so anything you post about him should be taken with a grain of salt.
Why did he not try for an immediate rematch with McCall? I don’t know if anybody not wanting to see a Loma v Lopez rematch bar Lopez and his dad.
I don’t hate Lewis, but his fans are as has been proven in this thread the very epitome of a walking contradiction.
That is the definition of ALL FANS of every single famous sports star. There isn't a group of fans on this board that don't say stupid things.
Lewis didn't "dodge" a rematch with Rahman because Rahman never asked for one. It's that simple. Why are you making this so complicated?
I asked as well if Rahman had a request for a third fight. Did he? My open search on a third produces nothing. Rahman went on to a fight w/ Holyfield after the Lewis rematch, a week before Lewis' match w/ Tyson.
No, I do not recall ever seeing anything in the media about Rahman demanding a rematch. If you have evidence that he did, post it. Otherwise claiming lewis avoided a third fight is completely illogical.
I don’t know as I know neither man. My main concern with fighters who go 1-1 in consecutive fights, especially in endings like the Lewis v Rahman 1&2 fights is the sense that the rematch proved the better fighter. I hate the term “lucky punch” or in Lewis’s case he was “fat”, “undertrained”, he lost to the better man on the night. For the record o think Lewis would win a rubber match as he is simply better than Rahman.
