"but he can’t move these days"

He can't move as well as he used to now that he's older, more worn and heavier but he could move well enough to stop Whyte landing even one significant punch and looked like he was in 2nd gear. It's also not just Usyk's movement that gave AJ problems but Parker's (who could barely outbox Ruiz in New Zealand and couldn't outbox Whyte) and Parker would have done even better against AJ without that bodyguard referee and dodgy cornerman. I've said before that 41 year old Wlad seemed to have faster feet than 27 year old AJ (a caveat being that Wlad was 10 lbs lighter than AJ at 240 lbs but it's still something to bear in mind). I expect Fury will start by giving AJ a boxing lesson and KO him mid-late.

Fury’s movement is completely overrated by people like you these days, or people who are simply too lazy to notice the difference. Joshua is easily more athletic than Fury in a number of facets. He’ll be stronger, more powerful, and yes, more agile. Fury moves like a walrus but his anticipation, his ability to slide and roll with punches compensates to a certain degree. It won’t compensate enough that he’s able to keep Joshua off of him for 12 rounds. Joshua’s chin is not great, but it’s not awful. Joshua can take a punch but he hates being hit and it has a residual effect. Fury isn’t the biggest puncher in the world and Joshua will have a chance to get off punches. My honest opinion without winding people up is that Joshua has a great chance of beating Fury. Fury wasn’t keen on boxing Joshua before Ruiz put it on him, because he doesn’t fancy the job. He fancies it more now but it’s closer now due to Fury’s physical deterioration (“always keeps himself in great shape, is always in the gym” is totally nonsensical, look at him. He might have a high level of fitness considering his appearance but he’s not in great shape). Whereas at one time Joshua would’ve struggled to get to Fury, he won’t now.

The truth is that Fury’s accumulating greatness, but his current ability is overrated. Joshua does a lot of things better than Fury. It’s a close contest. Fury is one bout with Joshua away from having his enormous ego burst (and he will be aware of the consequences) and Joshua is one win away from scoring what many will consider to be the best win in the division and in the process almost throwing the top end of the division into a state of flux. The only one yet to show their hand will be Usyk and if he does face and beat Wilder he will be the clear number 1 at that point.

It would be a typical boxing story for Fury to pick out Joshua at his lowest point and lose. His entire persona will thereafter be required to undergo some sort of transformation. Joshua has been overrated since day 1 and if Fury can’t beat him then it says a lot about him (and his current version).

In one way I’d like to see Fury lose (because he’s a lying, smug, hypocritical and sanctimonious arsehole with an unmatched hubris, who has become carried away with himself) but on the other hand I’d like to see Dosh lose again because he’s an overrated marketing puppet who supports sham organisations like BLM (stands for Buying Large Mansions) and is a typical racist despite earning enormous amounts of money directly from those he discriminates. It will be good fun either way. The battle of the egos. Only Usyk is a decent guy out of the lot and he’s the best to watch, too. But I think Fury would KO him.

I'll just be happy if the fight really goes ahead.

I think Fury was looking for/expecting a massive purse for another joke tick over fight.
He was touting a fight with Chisora and even Thor and Francis Ngannou but the public reaction to all 3 potential opponents was rightly WTF?

Fury's movement in boxing is a bit like any big striker who can control a ball in football.

If Fury is in proper shape the bodybuilder is getting knocked out here. No question.

People say Fury moves like mayweather but in reality he’s closer to Valuev than a ballet dancer. He’s certainly not very entertaining to watch style wise, doesn’t have brutal power for a guy his size either. Wilder was stopped through exhaustion rather than a flat out KO. Painful to listen to these days.

that said I pray he beats AJ but it is a 50/50 for me. If Wilder can drop him a few times then AJ definitely can.

    the fight will happen
    December 3 Cardiff

there's absolutely no sane reason for anyone to still be criticising Fury or Joshua over this. both are willing and able
Warren hasn't said anything against it either.
Hearn was a bit negative to begin with but seems to be on board now.

Unfortunately the worst people in boxing seem to be a minority of naysayers and scumbags who post here who undermined the idea of this fight happening now and will no doubt continue to

Is AJ more powerful than Fury though? Fury is certainly a better one punch KO artist. Fury’s movement is far better than the flat footed AJ
I cannot see how AJ wins this fight, he has gone gun shy and his only hope is to take it Fury early on, if he does this he is going to get countered and likely flattened.
I think it would be some shock if AJ actually pulled off the victory.

Yes, his movement is more like Valuev than it is even Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko. Vitali, only half an inch shorter at 6’7” (not going by the WWF height listings) and in much better condition, makes Fury look like a slob both aesthetically and in performance.

I find Fury entertaining to watch because he brings variance, but he’s far from elegant or an example of textbook technique.

I’m interested in this one more so because of the timing of it. It’s a form of cherrypicking- he’s going after him now that he thinks he’s at his weakest, but I don’t think Joshua is. Joshua looked great before due to the rubbish opposition in Molina, Martin, Takam, Breazeale… didn’t look good at all vs Parker, shaky vs Povetkin, same vs Pulev etc. Joshua might be better than ever, just mentally uncertain.

It's 50-50 for me. Joshua will land on Fury at some point but Fury is well known for getting back up again. At Fury's size AJ isn't going to spark him if Wilder didn't.

The question is how long it takes AJ and how quickly he'll gas while trying. Like Wilder, he could well run out of steam and be open to less powerful but more sustained or calculated punches.

All that being said, it seems we're now talking about the boxing rather than warring promoters or TV networks so this is good :)

Raising your eyebrows and moving your head side to side when you've got a massive ogre physique can look quite impressive though. I think four years ago, even when he wasn't 100%, Fury used his movement well against Wilder but he'd been hammering cardio more than ever before in the build up to that fight and two previous fights he had so he was more able to move the way he did. It's undeniable that for a number of rounds in that fight he moved and anticipated well, he did a lot of things exceptionally well in that fight and despite the two knockdowns I think we're all in agreement that he should have got the nod. He can't do that now though and that gives Joshua a chance because he has improved as a boxer, he just needs to let is hands go a little more, it's like he can't get the balance right.
