I love how people make a big deal of winning one or two rounds when the fighter got stopped in 5. I mean, who cares that Ruhlin won round two? We can see that he had no chance by round 5.

Your best friend Mendoza stated in another thread that Jeffries didn't fight from a crouch (!).
I have the Pollack book and stopped counting the word "crouch" when I hit 25.

He won both the first two rounds ,which is what I not only stated but proved, nothing more and nothing less. Ruhlin wasnt stopped in 5 either ,his manager pulled him out between the rounds.I have the full fight reports from several contemporary sources.I like accuracy which is why I mentioned Jeffries did not knock Ruhlin down in the second round Ruhlin was not floored until the 4th rd. Whether you believe me or the hater is a matter of indifference to me,but I back my statements with primary sources

Actually Fitz began to drink pretty steadily after 1900,perhaps if you read Pollacks bio on him you would be more up to speed? I also recommend Odd's book.Any challenger with a 4-2-4record been ko'd in their last fight getting title shots today?
What do you think the result would be if Leon Spinks fought John Finnegan ? Ali was 36 when he took on the 9th ranked Spinks Jeffries was bang in his prime when he defended against no hoper Finnegan who had been kod in his last fight.Spot the difference?

It's pointless, as Jeffries stopped Ruhlin anyway. Ruhlin wasn't ready to fight 6th round and it's visible on footage we have.

You have to have extremely high standards for Jeffries if you count against him that he lost 2 rounds in a fight that was stopped after 5.

Yes, but it doesn't change anything because Fitz was still the best fighter in the world after Jeffries in the ealry 1900s.
I don't know, Spinks was nothing special. He'd probably win but it doesn't mean much.

Jack Dempsey gave a chance to Carpentier who was nobody at HW.
Joe Louis gave a chance to some mediocre fighters.
Joe Frazier defended against some weak fighters.
Jack Johnson's whole title reign is a joke.
It all doesn't make them look worse. What they did against top competition is important and Jeffries did well against top competition.

I see Fury beating Jeffries in a good work out. JJJ may be a solid, rock hard guy but Fury s advantages have him treating the fight as a sparring session.
By round 13, Jeffries face would resemble minced meat and by the 14 th, his legs will give out on him at last.

Once again all I said was Ruhlin won the first two rounds which is true.Do you see anything wrong with stating the truth? Perhaps you prefer the Haters version of the fight with its BS inaccuracies? Well its a free forum .I wont be bleeding whatever you decide.

Bob Fitzsimmons on Gus Ruhlin after their fight from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle 11 Aug 1900

"That fellow is a terribly hard puncher and he is clever, too. I did not think, from his battle with Sharkey, that he was so good, but I know it now. tI was the hardest fight of my career and I think it was the greatest and fastest that ever took place. My throat hurts and my left hand will not close tight but beyond a pain in my 'Adam's apple', I feel all right."

My point which has obviously escaped you is it was not a deep era. Otherwise recycled old ex champs coming out of 2 and 3 years retirement would not be going into title shots. When you have the liksd of Finnegan and Munro as challengers that means you have a choice, fight the best men whatever their colour or fight only white old ex champs and hyped white nobodies Jeffries wasn't alone in making his choice but that doesnt change the fact it wasn't
a strong era as regards the white talent pool ,big names sure but in reality , old retired men .

I didn't say that you are wrong, I just say that it doesn't matter (like most of your debates with Mendoza).

What matters in my debates is for me to decide. ie the Butcher ,not the chopping block. I will always correct liars, if you find that unnecessary, dont read my content, simple as.

Jeffries style changed significantly between the first Fitzsimmons fight and the Munro fight.

He seems to have become more upright towards the end of this title reign, then reverted during the Johnson fight.

When Jeffries toured with Fitz giving nightly exhibitions, Bob told him to lose the crouch as it meant giving away his height ,but this was late ,after 1902.
