Fury would buckle his legs leaning down on him. Fury is a better clincher by far and knows how to manipulate fighters up close especially in dog fights. Ruiz is only good at throwing his flashy combo's up close, not clinching or wrestling. He likes to keep his hands free where possible so will try to step back and create a little distance, this is not something Fury will let you do. Danger with Ruiz is pulling out away from him, have to step to him quickly or if the distance has been closed clinch or stay close. Most heavy's aren't good at staying close and working inside, that's Fury's bread and butter which is not typical for such a big man, Fury's hooks to the body are actually his best most natural punches. Fury's biggest weakest in close are his offensive hooks, he never throws it tight and strong...because he can't really, to generate power he has to throw it low or wide which is why his body hooks are his best most natural punches, actually gets some leverage on them. I think to be a truly outstanding inside fighter you needs to be able to be dangerous ala Mike Tyson quick, powerful tight hooks but despite that Fury is up there in close, he controls the action and if you get tired or can't handle having a big man on top of you he will have a field day with you in close. It's harder to gauge the opponent when he is on your chest, Fury will bring his head down to your shoulder to protect himself from at least 1 hand & keep an eye on the other hand. He is extremely positionally aware. Not once did he let Wilder push or turn him to the ropes through all of the clinches in their 2nd bout, Wilder actually managed to do it at one point and Fury quickly spun him again and crushed him into the corner of the ring it was glorious. Ruiz is so small though I'm actually not sure Fury would be able to position himself safely defensively up close on him. That all being said...what's the point when he can jab his nut in with 1 hand tied behind his back? There is no need for Fury to give Ruiz an opportunity by getting close with him. Not like he's knocking that iron midget out anyway. Stick 2010 Fury in with current Ruiz Jr and you'd have a fight. That's how far ahead Fury is now that he's crafted his skillsets. The year on year improvements Fury has made are ridiculous if you actually look at the time spent in the ring since his debut. He hasn't been that active.
In a slugfest ? Obviously Ruiz. No clinching, none of that. Just toe to toe action. Ruiz would destroy Fury in the pocket. Short height, shorter reach, faster hands, better counter puncher. Even the chin department is in favor of Ruiz. But thats not how the fight would go. Realistically Fury would jab his face off with ease. Fury is a stylistical nightmare for Ruiz. Yes Ruiz is a pressure fighter but he has slow foot speed, sub par head movement, VERY Short height, yeah....practically tailor made for Fury. If Ruiz was 6'5, kept his hand speed and had much faster feet he'd probably be a nightmare for Fury but thats not the case
Fury vs Ruiz would be like Joshua vs Ruiz 2 but a lot worse. Ruiz is a tough guy so he'd get the crap beat out of him for 12.
Ruiz would obviously win that. But Fury would never do that of course, that would be the most stupid thing to do.
Ruiz would be beaten to a pulp. He doesn't even have the range of Cunningham or McDerm or others that Fury brawled with and got hit plenty by. And Ruiz is so slow of foot, Fury will just dance around and unload combinations round after round while Ruiz wings air shots with his SMW arms. People only think Ruiz is a dangerous puncher because he TKO'd Joshua. He isn't a monster puncher at HW by any means. Fury is not the biggest KO artist but has shown more power when he goes for it. Btw, Ruiz is still obese. Don't fall for his latest photoshoot, which was inspired by obese female social media profiles who use the top down view and wide angle phone lens to distort their entire body into human proportion as well as providing them a jawline.
Fury would try leaning on him to zap his energy. AJs not really a clincher but he struggled immensely to clinch Ruiz (granted he was effectively done in by that punch in round 3). Fury's definitely better at clinching but Ruiz looks very hard to clinch regardless due to his weird body/head shape and insanely sweaty slippery "physique". Fury has underrated inside game but I just don't think he'd be able to match Ruiz's combinations and speed close up. If Fury decided to, he could keep him at the end of his jab all night. Although it'd be very uneventful with Fury only landing 2-3 jabs and maybe a scuff hook more got most of the rounds. It'd effectively be a low volume but clear uneventful win for Fury
Could be a very uncomfortable night for Fury if he gets dragged into it, or if he controls the range it could be very boring.
The dinosaur's arms would be so under-employed punching - such would be the reach disadvantage - he could instead use them to hold a juicy taco and supersized Pepsi while drifting towards a shut-out points defeat....
