One of my mates just completed this as part of a sports journalism course. Any thoughts... Michael Sprott is set to make a return to Britain, hoping to challenge heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury. The former British champion has largely been plying his trade on the continent, impressing with some brave performances against future world champions. But Sprott now sees the young prospect as the perfect platform to relaunch an assault on British and European titles. "If you look at my record you'll see two things. One, I've been in with some big names and two, I specialise in beating prospects." "After the Skelton loss, I felt the best way to a European title would be to travel on the continent. I got some great wins against some highly touted guys, but then I would get robbed in eliminator battles so it was one step forward two steps back!" "I honestly believe that I have the ability to win a European title and maybe challenge for a world title when I bring my A game. I can certainly teach this loudmouth kid with the fortunate name a lesson. After him, I'd like Derek Chisora and then whoever holds the British title - probably either Williams or McDermott." "Hopefully I can get all that done and Rogan will still be Commonwealth Champion. I'd love a tear up with him and then, if anyone can bare to watch it, someone needs to get Skelton out of the picture for good and I'd love it to be me!" "With the European you get a world ranking and from there, who knows? All I know is that with a good plan and some good results you can get yourself places. People will say I'm being over-ambitious, but it's about time one Heavyweight showed some balls and put it out there."
Hmmm.... If true, I think Sprott can win this. He doesn't do badly against physically large fighters.
I think Fury would do well to feed on tomato cans or journeymen for the next year. He's being very active (next fight march 14th), and he's been losing weight, so that's a good sign. But Sprott would be a bit too early, in my opinion. He's only 20. Let him get some experience instead of risking a Wlad-Purrity loss.
True,Spott is a teak tough cookie who regurlarly fights in his opponent's backyard and who has upset a favoured more than once. Sprott is a very decent heavy. Fury is a greenhorn who shouldnt share a ring with Sprott for the next 2 years. Another heavy weight talent will soon test unchartered territory when facing Sprott in march.Undefeated heavy weight talent Pianeta is scheduled to fight Sprott in Germany.
Excellent analysis. From what I've seen at this point, this kid looks like the British Tye Fields. Throwing him in with Sprott is likely to lead to a Barrett situation.
Cmon, Fury only has 3 fights... I think another 2 against similar level (slightly increasing) opposition before we truly judge - how many fighters do we draw this many conclusions off when he's a 3 fight novice...
