Tyson Fury vs Steve Cunningham March 2013

Nothing but a marketing move by Fury with an obvious outcome.

 

Clever choice of opponent for Fury - a feather-fisted midget who poses no threat yet is still seen as credible because he was robbed against a big name in his last fight (who also happens to be a feather-fisted midget).

While I like USS, he has no place at HW and won't beat anyone who isn't either also a blown-up cruiser or has major technical limitations.

Fury, for all the stick he gets, has become a much better technical fighter over his last few fights and this combined with his huge physical advantages over USS should see him win a wide UD/possible KO with Steve's suspect chin. USS may cause him some problems early on and take 2-3 rounds but I can't see him winning this.

 

I cant believe u guys are poo-pooing Cunningham's chances. Cunningham is a good deal faster than Fury. What's to stop Cunningham from pot-shotting to victory in the mold of Holyfield and Haye's wins over SNV?

Size is not the only factor. If it was Haye or Chambers fighting Fury, none of you would be calling it a mismatch.

I bet most of the people who think this is ez for Fury also thought Adamek would KO USS in December.

 

Ludwig,I agree with you that Cunningham a good,talented fighter,but at cruiserweight.Chambers,and especially Haye,have proved themselves at heavyweight.Could be wrong,but I cant see Cunningham potshotting Fury at all,due to the reach difference.Fury is not a bad boxer,can use the jab and is quite quick for his size and weight.

 

Cunningham has an unusually long reach, at 82'. Of course, Fury is bigger with 85'. This will probably be Cunningham's first pro fight against a guy with longer reach.

But this fight (if it happens) will be all about speed. Cunningham won't trade at all, he will come in at angles and move out quickly. It all comes down to whether Fury can connect. For a ridiculously big man, Fury is pretty fast, but i dunno if he'll be fast enough. The big intangible is how much Fury has improved. He looked good against Johnson but it seems to me Johnson wasn't in ideal condition for that fight.

 

He had no problems knocking out Nascimento and Belshaw,two big men with power .... Pretty sure Belshaw is the same height as Fury .. Nascimento is around 6 foot 6.

 

This fight looks like it might happen on April 20 and might be on NBC.

 

Indeed, Tyson Fury's American debut is gonna be on National television. Actually the largest and most repsected network in the United States, so much bigger than HBO or Showtime.
Madison Square Garden the most prestigous Stadium in the World April 20.This is just such a massive event, Tyson Fury coming to America.

Can't write USS off in this fight,people can whinge all they like,this IMO is a much stiffer test than Thompson will be for Price.If he wins Chisora,Johnson and Cunningham won't look too bad atall on the 24 yr olds record,hopefully he'll create a buzz across the pond also and get the likes of Jennings,Mitchell .. maybe even Banks interested in fighting him.

I was starting to wonder if I'd be the only one thinking USS could pull this off with the same type of effort he brought into the Adamek rematch.

The Fury of some of his recent nights at the office would lose to that Cunningham, I think.

 

Fury will need to combine the work rate of the Chisora fight and the defensive tweaks he showed against Maddalone and Johnson if he's to win it,I think his uncle Phil will get a pretty solid game plan together for him though and he'll stick to it.Hard fight for Fury whatever way you spin it though.

Fury is going to inflict serious damage to Cunnigham. Steve, he might like a cool, nice guy or whatever but he has no business at Heavywight. And he is messing with the biggest SuperHeavyweight in boxing right now and it is not gonna be a good outcome for him. Fury is the best Heeavyweight prospect in the World there is no doubt about it and even Emmanuel Steward thought that.
