Round 3 Carruthers is cut but still chopping away, as Eubank looks a bit unruffled by the grueling pace but still gets in the better quality and cleaner punches. Lots of clinching, shoving, and getting broken up by the ref. Eubank landing much more accurately on the outside but Carruthers always forcing his way in, eating jabs to get there but making Eubank uncomfortable. 30-27 Eubank
Round 4 The clinching is borderline constant now. Carruthers is flurrying out at the head of Eubank but finding it a hard target as Eubank tucks it and cricks his neck. Eubank is throwing hard right hands to the body, getting a bit wild but forcing Carruthers back. Nice right to the head by Eubank, showing good varied offensive technique. 40-36 Eubank
Round 5 Eubank Jr. is really tearing the body apart now, pushing Carruthers across the ring. Carruthers head hunts and grazes, with Eubank still moving well above the waist. Eubank keeps his eyes on the prize and is in position to land hard rights to the body even when defending and twisting away to slip Carruthers' high stabbing flurries. 50-45 Eubank Jr.
Round 6 Eubank is mixing up beautifully to head and body. Carruthers is game for it until the last, trading shots willingly despite Eubank getting the better by far of every exchange. Eubank is taking a few lumps across the cheeks and brow, but doubling up his right hand to the midsection and jaw of Carruthers. Fun finish, both guys swinging until the final bell. 60-54 Eubank Jr.
That was fun. So was Fury vs. Maddalone, actually. Even though both Carruthers and Maddalone were badly outgunned, they showed grit and didn't make it too ugly for their unbeaten showcased opponents to look terrific in executing their stuff. Took their pastings like men.
Ah, nevermind...Channel 5 is doing what Sky sometimes does with undercard bouts - showing it piecemeal, in bits and bobs. Starting with the 9th round. :!:
I was a huge fan of his old man so I'm hoping for him to be decent, but I haven't seen him fight yet and don't know what he's got. How does he fight and what sort of ceiling do you see him having?
Haskins trying to impose more of a boxing match in the championship rounds, and succeeding. Hall throwing wide shots, desperate to keep it a brawl. Nice pesky free-flowing right jabs by Haskins.
Hall is giving his all, but Haskins is able to maintain order and deny his invitations of trench warfare...keeping those wild attacks in check with smooth footwork and that light but reliably accurate right jab. Hall bull rushing him, but not able to do any quality work on the inside. Haskins coasts until the end, giving Hall a few right hook slaps across the face to remember him by.
