"Tyson Fury will knock out Usyk in 4-5 rounds" - James Toney

When has Usyk ever run around the ring? Floyd would do it but Usyk’s style is different. He’s a boxer but not a runner. He needs to keep the fight close distance because Fury has a big size and reach advantage. Usyk is there to win, not to come close or stay alive for 12.

I’m a fan of both guys and have stated before, this is a hard fight for Usyk. Fury has lots of weapons and is so smart. He’s also giant. Usyk is also smart and skilled, and I expect this to be a hard fight for Fury because he’s not looked good against southpaws and Usyk is one of the best southpaws in boxing. I’m excited about this fight and expect it to go 12 rounds. Not because anyone is running, because both guys are technicians in the ring.

 

Toney's one of my all-time fighters but I just can't get down with this. Only way Fury knocks Usyk down is if he dirties him in the clinch (which I think is legitimately possible)

 

Lol Usyk is like the polar opposite of Khan.

Khan had fast hands and that's all. Very one dimensional. Usyk has constant movements and feints and throws from a variety of angles. One the best technicians ever at the higher weights.

Fury will find this out if they ever fight.

Toney jealous of Usyk

 

Although Toney is one of my favorite fighters, I believe he jealously hopes Fury can beat Usyk and stop him from becoming a two-division Undisputed World Champion.

 

Very astute. It seems to be very common among these retired sub-heavyweight Americans. Roy Jones was hoping that Joshua would beat Usyk in fight 1 and Holyfield looked miserable when Usyk had the upper hand in fight 2. The Ukrainian master boxer exposes them on some level as they weren't big enough to consistently overcome the size disparity: Toney and Jones could only beat 2nd rate, short, less athletic heavies (and just as easily draw or lose) and Holyfield went 1-3-1 with Bowe and Lewis, with the win and the draw being the only significantly controversial results, and Holyfield receiving a clear majority of the punishment.

Toney's implausible claim could also be a result of age combined with punch-drunkness if we're being generous but given his history ("There will never be a white heavyweight champion", calling Manny Steward an Uncle Tom, "Europeans are dumb" etc.) it's not likely.

 

I believe Toney says many things for shock value. I can also envision Toney secretly cheering for Usyk to beat bigger men, e.g., Joshua and Fury.

 

Toney is G To me, but yes shock value & is very patriotic...

 

Fury IS a dirty fighter. He's very rough in the ring. He's like a 6'9" 270 pound Bhop but faster. He will fight the same against Usyk and I always saw Fury winning. It's really not a fair fight.

 

If Toney say it, then it's the real deal
