I blame AJ mostly for the loss to Ruiz.
That wasn't expected, that the fat guy would beat him like that, after the series of AJ's wins that you listed.
Still, I think, if we were to make an ATG list RIGHT NOW - Fury would be ranked higher than AJ (try to look at this from a sporting perspective; without emotion).

He lacks ring intelligence. There is nothing to be done about that. But it doesn't negate the great things he has accomplished.

I have them neck and neck. Fury unseated Klitschko, which is by far the best win, and he beat Wilder, who is a fraud, but in context you have to give it to him. He also has less losses. But Joshua has by far the better overall resume.

every fighter can have an off night. but fury seemed to fight DOWN to his opponents abilities. getting knocked down by a man in his first fight, ngannou, going life and death with wallen, etc.... for a fighter who many on here were saying that he was top three heavy EVER, he sure as hell did not fight like it. he disrespected himself and the sport by allowing himself to be grossly out of shape between fights. and he kept fighting the chisoras and the whytes over and over again while champ was gross.

For me, after a promising start, the 'Fury era ' became a lesson in how not to conduct yourself as the recognised number 1. His gaslighting, ducking of Usyk and meaningless fights - all the while talking himself up as an ATG - wore thin very quickly. I was pleased when Usyk got rid of him. Fury had it all at his feet and blew it, IMO, in a very short space of time. A cautionary tale ultimately

What could have been the Fury era turned out to be the Usyk era.. While AJ, Wilder and Fury along with their promoters were milking their claims to the throne by holding on to their 0’s, Usyk was unifying CW with his eyes on HW. He moved up and did the same thing in a short time.

I have been as critical of Fury as the next guy, but while I completely agree with you about fighting Chisora. Fighting Whyte was a different situation.

Whyte was WBC#1 challenger for years, and the WBC assisted Wilder in blocking him access to a title fight. It was only when Wilder was fully out of the picture that they finally said okay, Whyte you can have your shot now. Now sure Team Fury absolutely screwed Whyte over in negotiations (again with the WBC's support), but Whyte deserved his shot.

Whether we like Fury or not, it was the one time he actually acted like a champion by fighting Whyte. So he deserves some credit for that.

But yeah the Chisora and Ngannou fights? **** that noise

To be fair to those others, Usyk didn't need to collect the scattered belts. And he literally blocked the Fury v Joshua Undisputed fight by forcing through his WBO mandatory claim.

I agree to an extent. Let’s not act like Fury didn’t stall this out with his “mental health”. Same can be said for Eddie Hearn and Al Haymon when it comes to the AJ vs Wilder fight. It was in both best interest to allow them fight around each other to “marinate” that fight. I applaud Usyk as he went straight to unifying the division even if it meant fighting in his opponents country.

May as well just go ahead and make Joshua/Fury now. It's the biggest fight for both, and will attract more interest than any Usyk trilogy would. A win for either over Usyk at his age (after 2 losses to him) now would almost leave a sour note, rather than glory.

The winner can claim something over the other in historical retrospective terms.

I'd more describe it as the era of "the big three".

After Fury beat Wlad in an absolute stinker of a fight, he went on the missing list for years. By the time he came back and got a half-decent grip on the division, Usyk showed up, and the rest was history. In 30 or 40 years, Usyk's name will be the only one that stands the test of time from this era.

I am grateful to Fury and Joshua for ending the miserable Wlad era.

That being said, there is no Fury era. He somehow managed to miss fighting Joshua, Povetkin, Kabayel, Zhang, Joyce, Parker etc. Of course you would not expect him to fight ALL of these guys but you would expect him to have a match against the majority of these guys.

Thank goodness for Usyk coming in and sweeing 6-0 vs Fury, Joshua and Dubois. While i am disappointed in the Parker-Usyk fight not materializing, i am grateful that at least Usyk was willing to unify the titles by fighting whoever was in his way. Great champ and i hope he retires so we can move into a new era.
