In the time from winning their first world title Fury November 2015 and Joshua April 2016 Fury is 5-1-1 in world title fights Joshua 9-0-4 in world title fights Unifications Fury 0-0-1 Joshua 2-0-0 Reigning champions beaten Fury 2 Joshua 3 Including winning the title to date - I think Fury has had 6 fights against top 10 rated competition in the nearly 9 years (3 against same opponent) I think Joshua has had 10 fights against top 10 rated competition in the around 8 and a half years That may be incorrect
Ruiz was only a champion because he got splatted by AJ in the first place. It doesn't really count. I'd also point out that dethroning Wlad and Wilder in their backyards is very different to enjoying home advantage against Parker and Martin. Though I do give AJ credit for beating Parker.
I have often wondered how RING go about their rankings. How far do they look back? Do they weight your last fight higher than your 10th last? etc etc. Not sure if they even have a stated criteria? Will take a look. I suspect it amounts to a group of RING staff sitting down together and voting. There's no magic formula. BoxRec have proved that over and over again.
Why would it not count? You can't change things to suit Completely agree but in this overall debate do feel defending titles is also a factor but don't disagree with what you have written there
I think a bit of it could be down to popularity and who someone likes most but don't know myself I did a thread recently asking people their criteria for ratings and nobody would commit to answering when questioned Answered alot
What? To altering my posts and replying to altered posts? Why would you feel Ruiz was a paper champion for dethroning a unified defending champion?
As there is no universally accepted method, everyone seems to apply their own interpretation. Sports without goal posts or nets, like diving, gymnastics and boxing rely on human opinions for scoring and ratings and it sets them apart from the likes of football and basketball.
