Usually they wash it first regardless of how it comes out. I'd guess you have to make the count first. Tyson was just confused and sputtering to get up.

 

I love the fact that Mike is loved and accepted by millions across the world.

 

Mike took some hellacious bombs by a very big man and was probably damn near out cold, yet he was unable to give up and grabbed hold of that mouthpiece.

Mike was a warrior, even when out of shape.

 

i think he was confused, in doing that

 

yeah i'm sure you'd have the wits to know what you're doing at that point much better than mike did

 

That was a real sad moment for me

Instead of just getting up and trying to make the count, he was on the floor trying to shove his mouthpiece back in with boxing gloves on

 

Buster said that's when he knew wasn't gonna get up.

 

Something more impressive is when Tyson knocked out Etienne and he took his mouth piece out

 

Loved that fight, watching Tyson get exposed by a very average fighter was wonderful.

 

You have to carry the mouthpiece to your opposing corner who take it away to have it specially cleaned. The fighters usually have to pay for delivery to have the mouthpiece returned that night. Glass chinned or pre chin prime fighters usually go for the second class slower delivery.

 

It was a terrific moment.

 

Exposed my ass. He lost controversially to a very talented HW who was in the best shape of his life. Let's not forget Buster got a long count in the 8th and should've had a KO loss

 

Let's not forget that the ref's count is the determining factor, and Douglas was very clearly watching the referee from about the count of three or so onwards until rising. If the ref had counted quicker, Douglas would've risen quicker. His almost immediate angry thump of the canvas when he goes down shows how aware he was of the situation.

Just a bit tiresome to see that old chestnut again.

Anyway, no, if Tyson had managed to regain his feet and balance by 10 but without his gumshield then either the ref would've noticed and put it in or his corner would've. Or Mike just fights on the rest of the round without it.

Tyson trying to jam it into his mouth before rising was just his dazed state in those moments.

Anyhow, I thought that was bad ass by Tyson. His head must have been spinning 200mph and he was still trying to get back into the fight. He certainly was game!!
