does anyone know why tyson never had an immediate rematch with douglas by the way?? was there somethin in a contract where douglas had to fight evander next?? the rematch would of been a huge event, never understood why mike had 4 fights after douglas before prison and none of them were for the belt
i know the fights with razor were ment to be an eliminator for holyfield so maybe he would of had a titleshot in his next fight,if he never got sent down??

 

mike knew it was an aberration, a fluke, a stroke of luck where everything went perfect for douglas and everything went horribly wrong for tyson ... and douglas knew that too ... which is why mike wanted a rematch ASAP and douglas opted to fight holyfield

and mike was after his titles more so than after douglas ... douglas ballooned up and fought holyfield, lost and that was it from him ... mike was scheduled to fight holyfield before he went to prison

it shows the heart mike had, and also he was dazed. But he sure showed heart with Douglas.

 

Tysons mouth piece from the Douglas fight is the one piece of Boxing memorabilia I would love to have. I'm a huge Tyson fan but I'll never forget him on all fours trying to put the mouth piece back in while being counted out.

 

He was to out of it to realize he could get extra recovery time if he got up without the damn mouthpiece. But honestly, I don't think even that woulda saved him. He woulda got stopped anyway, that KO combo was lethal.

 

Surly douglas must of known that a rematch with tyson would have been the biggest thing in boxing since maybe ali vs foreman/frazier (not classing buster as good as any mentioned) if promoted right would of broken all ppv records and such? Jus never herd any interviews at the time with either side screamin for a rematch

Then when mike put that record straight it would have jumped right in for a tyson & holfyfield fight when tyson wasn’t a complete shadow of his prime which would have been a far better spectacle then the fight we got years after

'if only' ay,, shame tyson blew it in the douglas fight and with his jail sentance
