some people dismiss him as a nothing but a bully and it aint true, im not saying he had heart like ali, fraizer or holyfeild, but he still had alot of heart, and the press try to make it seem like he crumbled as soon as you hit him

Completely agree, in fact, i made a thread about this a little while ago

Tyson, for all his faults, never once punked out of an ass kicking. Even we he was getting beaten he always kept trying and never ever gave up.

And he took a few big ass kickings too.

I agree there is some great misconception that when you stood up to him he would just fold, but that is certainly not the mike tyson i remember. Even when buster douglas hammered him he was still trying to get up, and to me the image of him trying to regain his feet whilst fumbling for his mouth peice was the act of a warrior and certainly not a coward.

In fact, a lot of so called "warriors" talked about on this board have been given more credit for taking an ass kicking then quitting then Tyson has been given for hanging in there as long as he could whilst taking a beating.

In essence, i completely agree with you

I can't recall Tyson ever avoiding anyone, never while he was good. I wish Tyson would come back to boxing. Get in shape, and lets see him versus Sam Peter. I think he would knockout Peter first round. Maybe, Tyson should have avoided some people, the big tall fighters. If Tyson can't make a comeback, at least comeback as a side commentator for HBO. I miss Tyson.

agreed although he could he could've shown more heart by dedicating himself properly to retaining his old skill level (was content to be a solid heavy handed head hunter post prison) and he shouldn't have quit vs mcbride while ahead and capable of winning that fight

I'm probably the biggest Tyson fan around here. He won't ever make a comeback. He just doesn't want to box anymore - who can blame him. He had 58 fights, 16 of which were title fights. That's a lot more than most, these days, and that's even including the fact that he lost 4 of his 'prime years' due to jail time. In an interview towards the end of his fighting life, he was asked, "So what are your plans for the rest of your career?" To which he replied, "My career? My career was over in 1991." You can't box without the desire to get into the ring. Mike lost his desire, and I, for one, can't blame him following how he was used and abused by his 'friends'.

I dont think most people have questioned Tyson's stomach, what they have questioned is his ability to hang in there past the early stages of a fight against real quality boxers......it has nothing to do with stomach, but more to do with ability using the technical aspects of the boxing game.Once Tyson had unleached his early rage, his opposition stood a much better chance to use their ring skills to outbox him.

Despite all his faults Tyson was still a tough *******, he took some epic beatings and never gave up. Many other men would have quit against Douglas or Lewis.

The two Ruddock fights should highlight this point. Although post-Holyfield II he did seem to lose his will for combat.....

I felt sick watching him vs "the Clones Colossus". :-(

HBO should get him as a commentator. I hear he's a real student of the game. A boxing history geek.

The nice HBO paycheck would help him a lot.

i don't really remember too much early fury and fade in those fights, he just got beat and his skills weren't the same... plus you do realize that the holy fight was 11 years into his career and after prison right?
