Teddy Atlas started all those 'Tyson is bully" rumors, and Atlas makes a life out of keeping that going. It's totally untrue, but Atlas has his mug all over on television, and some people fall for his bull****.

Tyson was one of my favorite fighters, Don King destoyed his career. Ask Ali about Don King. Teddy Atlas hated Tyson, figures. At his prime, Tyson was truly great.

The Douglas fight was a lesson by Douglas on how to go about beating down a fighter with a jab as a main weapon.
Stylistically, Tyson was never even in that fight.

.....the Holyfield fight however was as competitive a Heavyweight Championship fight as there ever was through 5 rounds.
Tyson certainly unleached early fury in that fight.....but Holyfield hung tough, dropped Tyson in the 6th, Holyfield's skills took over and Tyson faded badly with each passing round.

.....and yes, I do realize it was after prison, but I also realize that post prison Tyson was basically the same Tyson.
The fight before, Tyson had looked spectacular in stopping Frank Bruno.....it even had the Showtime commentators yelling out, "He's back, Tyson is back!".....and everyone in a frenzy with the same opinion.

People love to point to the Tyson that massacred Spinks being Tyson at his peak....but if people stopped to think, they'd rationalize and come to the conclusion that the Tyson that fought Holyfield, and who did exhert fury through the early rounds.....that Tyson would still have stopped the same Spinks of 88" in much the same way that he had done back then.

There is'nt one damn fighter in Tyson's resume pre-Holyield, that would have ended in a different conclusion with the Tyson that fought Holyfield.

The Tyson that fought Holyfield would have dealt with all those fighters he had faced earlier in his career in much the same way.

.....but because a better fighter beats him, oh no, that just cant be the same Tyson!:nut

Yeah. He always fancied himself another "Jack Dempsey"; hammer-fisted little guy. Tyson used to sit down with Cus and watch a lot of old boxing footage. They'd talk about past greats all the time. Tyson is extremely conversant in boxing history because of it. He's a lot more intelligent than the vast majority of the public and media give him credit for being. Read his psychiatric evaluation sometime. It's online, if you search for it.

F--k Teddy Atlas. I understand how he might not like Tyson given their history, but he seems to actually enjoy talking about how Tyson had 'no character' and was a 'ticking time bomb' and how he always got 'preferential treatment' from Cus because he wouldn't be punished by not being allowed in the gym after screwing up at school or misbehaving. In the 6-hour long Tyson ESPN special, Teddy goes off on rants at several points, basically saying that every Tyson opponent was a hand-picked bum they used to pay huge amounts of money in order to get in the ring with Tyson and get knocked out just for hyping purposes.

Very true, he would take his beatings like a man. Although Tyson did have a way of taking his foot of the gas and clamming up once he decided he couldn't overcome the man in front him. This issue of Tyson having no heart has been has greatly exaggerated though, I agree.

Mike isn't just knowledgable, he is the finest student of the game you will ever come across.. I was around Mike from 1995 to 1999 and helped him through the Holyfield bull**** thru to The Ettienne win.. I know he was losing desire way before these events, but i have spoken an awful lot about boxing and we used to talk about the most obscure things.. He absolutely adored Joe Louis , and Benny Leonard, Dave Shade, Bill Slattery, Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson. That Billy Conn fight was on in audeo once in his 4 x 4 SUV.. he used to trip off the old fights.. He is THEE Expert and knows the history of almost every division.. BUT.. he has fallen out of love with the game, it became a lot less fun after he started getting manipulated by the sharks...

great way of putting it, taking the foot of the gas or game quitting when he couldnt conquor, is what he could do, but he still had alot of heart, you never step in the ring without it, let alone, become a heavyweight champion, and there was a time he was as legit as they come and the best fighter in the world

Yes and when ever better fighter beat Holyfield he had hepatitis and heart problems. When Lewis beat him he was suddenly past he’s prime.

And Its only Holyfields luxury to use past he’s prime excuse every time he get beaten.

That Tyson who fight against Holyfield ,would have lost against Ruddock.

I have always wondered why people, particularly the media, make out Tyson had no heart whatsoever? Mostly, those in the media circles who have criticised Tyson, have never even put on a pair of gloves before, let alone actually get in the ring & box!

When Tyson's back was against the wall, when he was given a hiding, he took his lumps. Granted, he bit Holfield's ear, but I do think that was sheer frustration, anger coming out. You can't let that happen in the ring, but Tyson did let it happen that night.

For those who have seen the Douglas, Holyfield 1 & Lewis bout, Tyson proves he can take his lumps like a man. Mike was completely fcuked during the Lewis, I can remember him wincing in pain in the corner because of cuts over his eyes, yet he still ploughed on for the next round!

Tyson was a shot-to-bits fighter by the time Lewis got to him, yet he still managed to least eight rounds. People don't mention that do they? Lewis hit Mike with some massive right hands, & they just bounced off Tyson's chin. I think Tyson was a very, very durable guy, one of the most durable HW's in history I would say.

He took a battering from Douglas. Mike's head was rocked back & forth, yet he still managed to knock Douglas down in the eight when clearly, Tyson was just about spent by that time.

Tyson was never ever put away with a single shot! He was too durable for that.

Tyson had heart & he never avoided anyone. When he use to say he was the best fighter in the world, you could see that he really meant what he was saying, he said it with conviction.
