Tyson has an under rated chin, even though it is rated highly.

I'd rate his chin about 8. It was not as good as Holmes, Cobb, Ali, Foreman etc, and they are 9/10.

 

was tyson ever knocked down by a single punch like holmes & ali? no. holmes & ali had less KO losses than tyson because of reasons other than chin. now to be fair, it is true that anything can happen in boxing. there is a puncher's chance where even someone like tex cobb can get knocked down or out by a seemingly harmless punch. but holmes got knocked down by a single punch several times whereas tyson did not (and he was tested in his career imo when it came to punch resistance).

i definitely believe tyson had a better chin than holmes. i'll just a step behind arguing the same vs. ali but ali did weather the punches of harder hitters. people have this misconception because they don't judge the chin by itself...they judge it with other factors...factors where tyson was not so good. if holmes was knocked down against shavers, he had the lion's heart and the style to win the rest of the round.

 

Considering that only Lennox Lewis was able to park Tyson like a Cadillac, I gotta assume that Tyson's chin was above par. It was solid.. Hell, guys like "Douglas and Holy" hit Tyson with the kitchen sink, but Tyson took the blows well, until he couldn't take no more...

to be fair, holy & douglas fought a good version of mike tyson...lewis fought a shot one. yes, lewis made him look especially bad (this was the same guy who ko'd etienne in 49s)...but tyson was shot...look at his prior fight with nielsen. i think a young mike tyson would have taken lewis' shots better and maybe even won because of that ability to take a shot and come right back.
