yeah he did what he should have done against Tyson at that point though. He was using his head like battering ram. Tyson was dirty too, so you can't really feel that bad for him.
Reminds me of Mosley upsetting Margarito. More or less breaking a man down, getting off your own shots while completely negating return fire via clinching. Ugly but effective.
Tyson did just as much holding in that fight. As for headbutting, it was part of Holyfield's style for sure. But again, it was something that Tyson was just as guilty of throughout his career, so the whining from Tyson nuthuggers about Holyfield being "dirty" is ridiculous. Tyson was a serious headbutter in his own right, in his prime especially.
I am no Tyson nuthugger at all, but Tyson was winning the fight for 5 rounds and in the 6th, a low blow and a headbutt by Holyfield preceded the turning of the fight. Would Holy have won without those two fouls? I think he would have broken Tyson somewhere, due to his sheer determination in this fight. Still, it is often forgotten that Tyson looked good early before Holyfields fouls.
Tyson elbowed the **** out of Bruno in the second fight. I felt no sympathy for Tyson getting fouled by Holyfield he was just as good at it. His problem was that he didnt retaliate which was kind of suprising. I think he thought he would just knock Holyfield out. I think in the second fight, he knew early on Holyfield was intentionally trying to foul him, and thats why he bit him.
All true. Mentally he was off in both fights. The first fight he didn't have his usual intensity and expected Holyfield to succumb to raw power and reputation. Before he knew otherwise he was really getting beaten senseless. He said himself he couldn't remember much. The second fight he got overly concerned about butts, and admits he was just psyched out by how good Holyfield was. The bites were a combination of spiteful retaliation and fearful surrender.
Tyson himself was a very dirty fighter. Holyfield made it a gutter war very early, an ugly brawl, and Tyson couldn't cope. I agree with the poster that said Holyfield had the momentum as early as the 2nd. I think Tyson was shocked at his brute strength, savage attack, and willingness to be dirty, and was too over-awed to correctly respond. Hence, he got utterly dominated. In the second fight, he got mean, but I view the ear biting as a no mas. Not the surrender of a coward, but the surrender of a man who wanted no more part of what was going on.
Am I the only one who thought that in the second fight Holy fought like a coward and only got what was coming to him - I think Holyfield is something of a hipocritical kind of guy - typical of the average bible belt guy - part of me felt the rage that Tyson unleashed on him - I wanted Tyson to get him back bigtime in someway - but I've got to admit I never expected the bite - but I knew he was going to take it back to Brooklyn if Holy wanted it that way
Tyson did his share of dirty fighting as well. Both guys are well known for it and started it early on.At the end of the day I just think Holyfield had more desire for a hard fight than Mike did.
Your in the minority. Mike couldn't take it so he got himself DQed. If the referee is allowing headbutts and low blows, retaliate. Biting an ear off is gonna end one way.
