Holyfield was 100% intentionally using his head. Again though, Tyson was capable of fighting the same way, for some reason he really didnt resort to fouling until he tried to cut himself to get the fight stopped (first fight).
But that was a Holyfield strategy for the fight. To bully the bully back. If a guy has the tools, it's funny how often we see the bully unable to handle his own medicine. Lewis did some of the same things in his Tyson fight. He bullied Mike in there a few times as well. Very smart. It just illustrates how rare it is to find guys in the sport that can receive as well as they can dish out. You always have to watch out for that factor with those "on top" fighters anyway.
He didn't lead with his head like Etienne, but who does? But he did have to enter that bad Tyson zone to get in position for headbutts. So there is an opportunity for Tyson to do something about it. He didn't. Or couldn't or wouldn't. In my book, and I'm guessing your's, that small bit of fouling does not give Mike a free pass and a get out of jail free card for the fight. The fight was still a winnable fight in spite of those incidents and he has to find a way to win the fight regardless. A huge mistake the Tyson camp made was underestimating the strength of Holyfield. Why? They thought their guy was going to be physically stronger every round of the fight. Evander showed early on his strength advantage tyeing the guy up and muscling him & I never understood why they did not see that part of Evanders game.
Tyson never bit any of his other opponents, and they were free to foul him if they so wished. But Holyfield asked for it and he got whats was coming to him. Karma, Holyfield should know hes a deeply religious man
Hard to find anything to pick at in here, that's for sure. Maybe some would say it was a cowards way out in it's own right.
Tyson is dirty too, yet the Tyson fans manage to ignore that he has been known to try to break arms, throw elbows, headbutt, etc? Maybe Holyfield was really trying to rough Tyson up, throw low blows and headbutts, but Tyson was done the same thing before. It's not like Tyson just lost the fight because of the headbutts. he got STOPPED. BY PUNCHES.
Those examples are kind of like comparing Ruiz's clinching to Tyson's clinching, everyone clinches and butts at times but there are levels. Holyfield made an art form of the head butt, and pretty much took the ****
WTF you talking about, you Tyson-Rimlicker??? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVPyTDuUc_k[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-aoqQWgGvg&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JE8OzWsES4&feature=related[/ame] Holyfeild didnt headbutt on-purpose - he just stood his ground with his Head down in defensive posture VS teh bully And refused to back-down or move. Tyson was leaping/lunging into Holyfeilds' Lowered head. All un-intentional clashes of heads - mostly Tysons' FAULT. :deal
Tyson apologists are gay as ****. Cry babies, just like their hero was in '96-'97. "The Baddest Man on the Planet" crying to the referee because someone actually had to nerve to give him some of his own medicine. Then biting like a girl to get out of another beating. I actually think Tyson has grown up since then. Not so much his fans.
The Tyson engine ran to a noticeable (breakable) rhythm, but back when he was piping hot the persistent ferocity and resilience of it simply melted away the chance to take control. Holyfield would have always troubled Tyson with his inside hustle and anti-bully mentality (this will come to be treated as something of a historical consensus), but the creaking, post-prison version of Tyson, robbed of his former dynamic buoyancy, left the path clear for the cunning Holyfield to drown him. What's glaring with Tyson (aged 30) is how predictable he had got with exaggerated bends, telegraphed haymakers and clunky combination's. The first fight was a tough, decent affair, but stylistically, Holyfield was having a giggle at times.
