[yt]vvg5sh7sjsU[/yt] Re-watching this again, I thought it was a great fight compared to what we get today. How come this fight is underrated? I hardley ever see this fight talked about compared to other Heavyweight classics. Even though Tyson was a one-punch bully at this period it still was entertaining.
It's a great one for sure, I think the fact that the crowd thought Holyfield would lose badly just adds to the crowds excitement. Was also interesting how Holyfield pushed Tyson back, when Tyson stops being the bully that's when he starts to get a bit nuts.
It is underrated for a good reason. Because it's a giant hugfest with a couple good moments sprinkled inbetween. Technically a terrible fight.
Best night i've ever expeareanced for a live fight in Vegas, atmosphere was absolutly incredible as they all were for a Tyson fight but this was the 1st time ever i'd seen a yank crowd act like us Brits & go absolutely nuts. Holy was given absolutly no chance & opened up at 28/1 & my missis got 18/1 at the Mirage Book whilst i was getting mega glagged up pre-fight at the MGM. Don King even said he'd refund all PPv subscribers 50% refund if it did't go 3 rounds, incredible night & what a SHOCKER of an upset:deal
The whole world was just expecting an execution, considering how Tyson had chewed up and spat out Bruno and Seldon.... whilst Evander had not long been stopped by a brain damaged Bowe. An amazing fight to watch.
True even watching it I can feel the whole atmosphere, the final seconds of the Tenth Round were enthralling. What an experience it must have been to be there.
it's amazing Holyfield still has normal speech and no visible brain-damage 3 wars with Bowe, 2 with Lewis, Tyson, Qawi, Mercer, Foreman, and the man doesn't show any damage
damian your kidding right? just listen to a cw holy then compare him to now. there is serious damage done my friend
I watched an interview with Holy and Lewis during the Olympics and he sounded like a normal person, I've never seen an interview with a younger Holy
Watched it live on Sky Sports Box Office in 1996. Naz, Benn, Collins, Winky Wright etc on a UK bill beforehand then Moorer, Botha, Akinwande before the main event. I thought Holyfield was incredible that night. One of the best experiences I've ever had watching a fight live and it did wonders for the sport. HOLY-FIELD HOLY-FIELD HOLY-FIELD was the cry ****in dynamite!
I think the fight is underrated and overshadowed by the return fight. If that bite or fight never happened, people would talk more about this fight.
Evan Fields has an asterisk next to each one of his wins. Tyson should have bit off his entire cheating bald head.
Me too... Watching it that night was unreal...when Holy pushed him back on to the ropes and mouthed 'yeah that's right I'm the man ' was a classic boxing moment.
It was a great event but not a great fight, a lot of the action was ugly mauling & clinching. I love the 1st round, Tyson lands a big right hand straight away but Holy didnt crumble & came firing back soon after. Holy just dismantled Tyson & took him apart, round by round. Seeing a legend destroyed that way was incredible, Holy always thought he would beat Tyson & after 2 fights were cancelled he finally got his chance.
