Considering the rematch did even bigger business than the first, they were totally right to go for it.
Holyfield's finish against Tyson in their first fight wasn't controversial. Tyson was all over the place and as good as out on his feet at the end of the 10th round. He was coming back with nothing. And when Halpern stepped to wave the fight off during the 11th, he simply saved Tyson from further punishment.
But it was a huge upset, and huge money-maker. A rematch usually takes place after one of those things, and Holyfield-Tyson I was a big upset that sold a lot of PPVs and a good fight.
Before Tyson got hungry like a wolf and bit off part of Holyfield's ear, I thought Tyson was starting to connect a lot more with Evander and he was starting to let off decent combos. Mike was in top shape and I'm sure the rest of the fight would have been extremely entertaining ! They had to do a rematch..too good a possible fight not to do...besides the dollars it generated !
i think apart from the obvious money thing, a rematch was needed. for tyson because he wanted to redeem himself and for holy because he wanted to proove his first fight performance was no fluke. i remember before the first fight that a lot of so called experts gave holy no chance of winning. holyfield is total quality and still had a lot in the tank back then. its a shame the original match up never happened , i think that was set for around november 1991. cheers !!!!
