I know Mike Tyson was a shooting star with a very short reign, but my question to boxing fans is in his absolute prime i would say the night he blew away spinks could anyone hang with him. That version of tyson was a total fighting machine and his head movement was exceptional.

Who would have beat this Mike

I wouldn't be surprised at all if prime Tyson lost to prime versions of Ali, Foreman, Liston, Holmes, Lewis.

Not sure about Holyfield. Even though Holyfield was supposed to be shot by 1996 when they fought, he obviously had more in the tank than expected, and he also adapted very well to both his age and to Tyson. Holyfield said he learned to be more controlled in his aggression after the 3rd Bowe fight, and you saw this against Tyson. Maybe a younger, smaller, too-brawl happy Holyfield gets stopped, and the older, wiser version was too old. Or maybe Holyfield simply always had Tyson's number.

Holmes could beat Tyson with his jab, skills, educated movement. Nice uppercut at times too. In Tyson's favor, when Cus and Teddy training him as a teen, he was known to have him train and practice as if he were fighting Holmes. They studied him well and looked at him and thought he could be pretty vulnerable to the right if you timed him well. Now obviously a peak Holmes would be harder to time than the 88' Holmes whom Tyson fought, but prime versions of Holmes were hurt by straight rights from Weaver and Snipes, and Shavers with an overhand right. And none of those guys could finish like Mike.

  4. Both of the Klitschko brothers would have dealt Tyson a swift, and relentless defeat.

In his prime tyson was awesome, but style wise foreman would have been horrible for him I think.

Uppercuts would be key. Shorter guys who come forward can be vulnerable to the uppercut, and Tyson was no exception.

Its always hard to say but fighters I'd pick to beat a Prime Mike Tyson include, Ali, Holmes, Foreman and Joe Frazier these four I think would match up well against a prime Tyson and would feel very confident picking them to win. I would slightly favor Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, and Vitali Klitschko over a prime Tyson. Riddick Bowe, Sonny Liston, David Tua and Wladimir Klitschko are three others guys who I think could potentially beat Tyson in his prime though I wouldn't bet on them.

lewis almost got ktfo in the 2nd round by a ghost of christmas past tyson. vitali got his face shredded by a ghost of christmas past lewis. tyson was an animal and although some of the fighters mentioned above would give tyson a hell of a fight i would still bet on a young cus damato trained tyson steamroll over all of them.

Not at all I left out many good heavyweights who I don't think would stand a chance. But I do think a Prime Tyson is beatable and what I was getting at is the first four I mentioned I'd be very confident to pick over Tyson. The next bunch I'd favor over Tyson though I could see it going either way, and the final bunch I mentioned I believe have a shot at beating a prime Tyson, but I'd favor Tyson. I'm about 50/50 in match ups between a Prime Mike Tyson and a Prime Riddick Bowe or Sonny Liston hard to picture how those match ups would play out.
