I think Tyson has become underrated, it pisses me off when many people put Lewis ahead of him. I heard someone on the Classic forum say that Tyson is top 15 Hw at best:lol::lol: While i dont think he is as high as 3 i have him around 7 on my alltime heavyweight list. He did make it look beautiful and brutal. Some dont even rank him high on All time PFP list i think he is top 50 for sure, and would have been higher if he had better competition when he was fighting, The way he blew fighters out was awesome.

Hey, man. We here you. There's nothing gay about "man on man action" as Jim Lampley puts it. Especially not when Louis is involved.

Depends on how high you rate fighters based on H2H. Last time I checked I had him 12-13 on my Heavyweight list.

Tyson sure made it look good against low quality opposition.
Against the higher level Journeymen he had long stretches of holding in his fights, because he had no outside game and no inside game. Tyson hit coming in, once inside he would usually rest his head on his opponent's chest and push and hold and throw the occasional uppercut.

The only man to make HW-boxing really look beautiful was the young Ali. The dancing and the speed.

Which actually is a joke thread because everybody knows that Duran stops every hw that ever fought inside 10 rounds. :yep

Tyson embodied elements others really didn't, at least not all in one. He was feared, had one punch knockout power,a GRANITE chin, ferocity, speed, an over hyped story behind his upbringing and a style that allowed for exciting fights. He may not have been the GREATEST heavyweight but he definitely left a mark on the spot that FEW...only TWO have left. When you say "Heavyweight boxer" world wide, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson are the two most famous...period.

  8. **** me, i've seen some **** in my time.

Each opinion is his own but this one isn't hard to shoot down if you wanted to put it to the test.

FWIW, I think people know Tyson simply because he was a relatively recent boxer, hell he only retired this decade. Ali however...

I think Trinidad and Joe Louis are quite similar actually. Both hit hard as hell. Both throw every punch in the book. Both stalk their opponents and rarely back up. Both can be knocked down, but are hard to knock out.

Maybe the opponent wasn't near those guys in terms of talent that you mentioned (putting it lightly), but this is my fave Tyson performance:

I know what you mean.

Why? Lewis dominated his era for longer than Tyson did and H2H ranks better. Why is he as high as #7? He's not top 10 material. His prime lasted about 2 years, and he lost his titles to a fighter he should never of lost to, a fightter who was remarkably average for a lot of his career. He blew out fighters because they were either complete tomato cans or journeyman for the most part in his career. He doesn't have a single A-level win on his resumé.

I am not a Tyson fan, but his explosiveness was second to none. You could never rule out a KO1 with Tyson no matter who he fought.
