Line of proved unforgiven's point there haven't you?

You still dismiss the chances of the lesser fighter.

Some guys just have other guys numbers, like it or not. Holyfield would always prove tough for tyson, frazier would always prove tough for ali.

From what we saw of douglas tyson, I don't see how you can expect a massive difference in fight outcome. Douglas smacked tyson round something bad and took his best shot. Was he as good as tyson? No. But did he have the beating of tyson? Evidently yes.

Yes I dismissed Mcalls shot in the rematch. Tyson never got a chance to prove his loss was a fluke but having watched both Tyson and Douglas careers through the course I don't believe he had Tysons number

So heres the deal gentleman. It is true that douglas and tucker had similar styles BUT what you do with that style in a given fight is what can make the difference. For example, Doulglas would land some sharp uppercuts on tyson as tyson was moving in. Douglas would land his right uppercut and either step back and jab him silly or step over with a one-two. If you recall in the tucker fight, tucker hit tyson wth a beautiful uppercut and at least took tysons balance from him (if not hurt him) but instead of following it up with more punches,...he fled. (round two). Both fighters have similar skill sets but douglas used his and took advantage of his advantages, tucker didnt. Fear makes one tentative and douglas had no fear so the ole cliche "styles make fights" came true in that fight. A big tall guy with quick and heavy jab, mixed with good movement would be the best blue print to beat a peak tyson. Really think anout that. If you have the blueprint AND have the courage and discipline to execute it (as douglas did) you should beat him save a desperation punch that knocks you out. The science of the game is at its best in that fight. They may have fought 10 other time with tyson knocking him out all ten but if Douglas has that same frame of mind, he beats tyson every time.

it's not a given douglas would beat any version of tyson 10 times out of 10, nor is it a given that any tyson would beat douglas 10 times out of 10

I would say that logic applies to 99.9% of all heavyweights ATG or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tyson went into the ring with Douglas with a hangover, his timing was off, there wasn't the same steam in his engine and ofcourse he had look deteriated since the Rooney split, falling in love with his power and not throwing in combination. Douglas was a prodigy though, a beautiful boxer who only really put it together that 1 night and did have a style to give Mike problems, his uppercut especially is a foil for Tyson, as is his jab, defensive footwork combined with the counter punching on the way in
