Well Tyson was past his prime although not by much, most people like to think that soon as he started losing he was way past his prime. Most people like to think that he was only in his prime as long as he was feasting on bums. And yes he was in his prime during the Douglass fight. Lennox would have done the same to Tyson whether he was in his prime or not

It ain't the first/last time expert and fans get carried away. My point is that you can't rate a win after how close it was with the bookmakers, or the so called experts. Sometimes the majority of the public asses fighters and fights bad because of the hype, or support a boxer gets...

Lewis i feel would have beaten any version of Tyson, but Tyson
had no chance in hell when he came in at 234lbs, that was ridiculous,
what annoys me though, is that the fight after when he cameback against Etienne he was 225lbs, and looked a lot better, why wasnt he in that sort of shape for the Lewis fight? I think Tyson was beat mentally long before him and Lewis actually fought, I seriously think Tyson came into the fight like "damn, I cant win."

The Brian Nielsen fight was ridiculous, Tyson weighed 240lbs for that fight,
thats probably the reason it went as long as it did, Nielsen is a durable guy and he aint all that bad (wins against an old Holmes and old Witherspoon, and wins against Jeremy Williams.) but he was meant to be an easy opponent for Tyson and a quick blow out.

hate the way people refuse to actually look at a fighters performance and instead choose to only go off what state of shotness/prime the other guy was. its the same with calzaghe - jones, everyone on here chose to ignore calzaghes excellant display ,only banging on that roy was shot ( and this from some who predicted a jones win ).lewis was **** hot that night in taking tyson apart.

imo lewis looked bad fighting a fighter that wasn't really fighting back and it took like 8 rounds to knock him out......i dont wanna hear that punishment crap either. Tyson was never himself after prison and he went out like a warrior and took his beating....unlike cotto....mike never took a knee even thought he was way overmatched at that particular time.
I think a younger mike would have been more aggressive and used more skill to try to make it a fight.

think its wrong for anyone to say lewis didn't fight well that night, it was one of his most complete boxing performances. he took tyson to pieces bit by bit until it was time to knock him out.

the build up to this fight was great especially the brawl at the press conference. a lot of fighters would have been scared to death of tyson before that fight started but not lewis - i don't think lewis ever showed fear to anyone.

credit too to tyson though, like was previously stated, he was gettin the **** beat out of him but he aint no quitter and he went out on his gumshield. at the time tyson was ****ed in the head and most people expected tyson to do something ridiculous if the fight wasn't going the way he wanted.

tyson looked horrible in the ring that night. yes, tyson looked good only about a year or so earlier, but then he laid off a bit and tyson wasn't emotionally prepared for the enormity of the fight (see the press conference) . he was also on psyche meds in the ring (per the fight contract). all told he looked dull, docile, and pretty mediocre in the fight and had only looked at all dangerous for the very briefest moments.

I'd put those "bums" against today's crop of heavies.

    Carl Williams 218 22-2-0
    Frank Bruno 228 32-2-0
    Michael Spinks 212¼ 31-0-0
    Tony Tubbs 238¼ 24-1-0
    Larry Holmes 225¾ 48-2-0
    Tyrell Biggs 228¾ 15-0-0
    Tony Tucker 221 35-0-0
    Pinklon Thomas 217¾ 29-1-1
    Trevor Berbick 218½ 31-4-1

I am a big big fan of Lennox Lewis, but I dismiss this win. I don't view it as one of Lennox's best at all. Tyson was shot. Simple as that. Lewis's wins over Tua, Ruddock, Klitschko, Holyfield, Rahman, Grant, Golota and Mercer were all better IMO. I think of it the same way I think of Calzaghe v Jones, for me that is not one of Calzaghe's best wins despite the big name of the opponent.

Though I'm still glad Lennox got to fight him and beat him in the end, it was a fight that always had to happen. And the condition of Tyson doesn't detract from how good Lewis was on the night.

It's not Lewis' fault if Tyson was mentally damaged goods and was only training sporadically.

Tyson always had and most likely still has enough pop now to KO the 5 guys he did before the Lewis fight, but he was a dead man walking in the ring with no game plan and only power to rely on with chance !!

I would have given lots of credit to Lennox if that win had arrived right after Tyson dismantled Frank Bruno for the 2nd time in order to gain the WBC belt !

Very little. Tyson's prime was in the 80s. Yes, the 80s. This fight occurred in the 2000s.
