Tyson easily. People forget that prior to losing to Evander, Tyson was still a brutal fighter. He was arguably stronger and faster post-prison although more of a one-punch guy.
Roys win over Ruiz was great but it was an excellent pick as Ruiz wasnt that mobile and the ref prevented too much hugging so Roy just boxed his ears off. We know Tysons chin was pretty good and in 96 he was more than capable of finding Roy and connecting solid shots. There is no way Roy could run for 12 rounds from 96 Tyson
rjj by late stoppage tyson would chase, stalk and throw bombs, rjj would keep hittin the jab and the 1-2, eventually tyson would run out of gas and get stopped
very much agree with danny on this one the only thing i would say is that he could have stated it even stronger then he did yes i could be wrong for sure no doubt about that itz happened all my life that said if 2003 jonez (or whatever waz his prime) fought 1996 tyson i personally would bet quite a large sum on tyson to destroy jones fairly handily and within 6 roundz. depending on the odds for a tyson ko of jones in less then 3 or 2 or possibly 1 i may also dump a bucket of money down on one of those possibilitiez as i feel strongly it would be a 50/50 chance if jonez made it past the first round with tyson the TRUTH is if jones didnt fight so well against the UNATHELTIC and gangly JOHN "i figured out how to tie up big slow heavyweightz and frustrate the hell out of them over 12 roundz" RUIZ we would never even be having this debate as NOBODY would have given jones a chance to beat a prime tyson, or rather a 96 version of tyson for that matter which waz after his prime but whatever jonez beat ruiz and after he beat ruiz everybody waz stunned and began assuming jones waz a potential heavyweight contender i feel ruiz waz not prepared to deal with a smaller and faster fighter and didnt have the skillz, techniquez and atheltism to handle jones IMO micheal spinks waz a better heavyweight then jonez waz at heavywieght in both of their primez. i would most likely pick spinks to beat jonez via decision or worse if they could have fought each other in their primez the truth is mike tyson in his prime waz unbelievably fast, powerful, hard to control and extremely hard to connect on for all but the TALLEST and BIGGEST of the heavyweightz and the truth is that when tyson waz still close to his prime and fought spinks, tyson bum rushed right threw spinks offenses and defensez and quickly destroyed him i dont see tyson having any more difficulty (in his prime im talkin) taking jones out then he did spinks in fact i dont think jones could have beaten a aged larry holmes twice the way that spinks did before he got his shot against tyson either i think jones carefully picked ruiz as he waz aware that he had alot of confidence in the fact that he could beat him because jonez waz already confident of how his skillz matched up against ruiz letz not forget jonez alwayz had a bit of that floyd mayweather syndrome going on thankfully however jonez finally started to sign the tough fightz after he came back down in weight and everyone quickly discovered that jones was indeed only human after all enough said
dont hate on otherz just because your jealous he didnt put it in your ass dont worry your turn will come round just be patient
thankz mate honestly i dont mean the floyd comment with the extreme stupidity that most on this forum make it out to be. i actually love watching floyd fight and love watching jones fight im not going to blame a wickedly talented boxer for making great money making decisionz regarding who and when he fightz as i feel floyd is more then brave to climb into a ring with any of the dudez he has climbed in against. i mean for crying out loud i dont have to put up with head shotz in my line of work. at the same time that doesnt change the fact that i feel floydz match making to this point in his career has been on the CAREFUL side rather then the RISKY side. itz not floydz fault that there are other less talanted fighterz out there that are willing to SIGN on the dotted line to make a fight not because their happy with the MONEY that their getting but because their UNHAPPY with the truth that the boxing criticz believe they will not be able to beat the guy they are signing to fight ie: pacman, im not a huge pacman fan but perfect example of a guy that is taking fightz for reasonz of challenging himself rather then for reasonz of making the most cash. personally i think itz a hugely DANGEROUS move for pac to step up and fight cotto and if i waz his manager i would have resisted that fight tooth and nail. that doesnt change the fact that i have to give pacman credit for taking on fighterz that the knowledgeable boxing fanz are aware will be very risky for him to challenge
If Ruiz could put Roy on the ropes, so could a 96 Tyson. Jones was able to catch Ruiz early and earn his respect, he would not earn Tyson's, and probably wouldnt get off the ropes the first time he went to them.
