Who cares? Tyson wasn't the champion in 1990s, he was one of "champions". He wasn't the best on planet at any point of his 1990s decade either. I hate this splitting titles, back when there was only one title everything was simpler and better.

Of course he was, because Frazier was not a boxer. Really the only thing in comparison was that they were both big punchers (especially to the body), and were both good at bobbing weaving and rolling, and both were tremendously fast. Tyson was a decent boxer, and could go 12 rounds well. However, Frazier's technical skill was superior, and as was his incredible stamina. And most of all, Joe could take a lot of punishment. In fights where Tyson took lots of punishment, he lost.

    Are you for real ?
Tyson is superior in every possible way: he was stronger, faster, had KO power in both hands (unlike Frazier, who only had his left), had a better chin and his defense was also far better.

A bit harsh, as Tyson fought on to an older age. Frazier wisely retired. Had Frazier fought on past Cummings ( The fight was a draw and probably Cummings ) he's losing to the second and third rate opposition too. Heck, if Frazier fought Danny Williams at age 38 ( Tyson's age ), he's probably getting stopped. Not that Williams was top puncher but on Frazier's resume he might rank as the 2-3rd best puncher he fought.

Tyson sure could go 1-4 vs Foreman and Ali, In face I'd say he win at least twice.

Frazier on accomplishments, Tyson head-to-head. I'd slightly put Tyson ahead, since I value head-to-head/peak a bit more. But it's close, and I don't mind if someone advances Frazier's case as the superior one.

I agree that prime Tyson beats prime Frazier, but I also do not think Tyson beats even the Ali of Frazier I.

If you think about it, despite Mike sensationally blasting through the competition during his reign, he wasn't even the dominating champion in the 80s. That was Larry Holmes. Mike became champion in the last few years of the decade. In the 90s...that wasn't the same Mike Tyson imo.

To me the 80s Tyson would have had Ruddock out in 2, Lewis in 5. Not sure on prime Holy or Bowe, though I'd probably lean toward Mike in his prime vs. 91 Bowe. Imo 90s Mike would have fallen to prime Lewis, Bowe, Holy...I even daresay he wouldn't get past 1992 Foreman.

I agree Tyson was stronger and faster, but Tyson never took punishment other than one shot at a time. Joe survived wars, and won. He got up the canvas twice against Oscar Bonavena to beat him, he took plenty of solid shots in ist round against Manuel Ramos, George Chuvalo, Jerry Quarry, and Jimmy Ellis, and knocked them all out. He finished against Ali in the FOTC with closed eyes. He lost the Manila fight, but in a respectful fashion. Tyson took lots of punishment against Douglas, Holyfield, Lewis, and a couple bums, and they all knocked him out.

Unfortunately, he was never the same after firing Rooney.
Prime vs prime, Tyson only struggles against Bowe. He totally demolishes Roidyfield. And he also beats Lewis.
Foreman was just too slow, almost all the ATG's who could move well would beat him.

That's cause he had a better defense than Frazier.

Tyson would of wasted all those on the same night.

Tyson was no longer the same when he faced those guys. And they could hit a lot harder than Frazier's opponents.

Tyson was certainly close to his prime against Douglas. I also don't know what makes Holyfield or Douglas harder punchers than Frazier's opponents.

Tyson would not be wasting Chuvalo or Bonavena, he might stop them on cuts, but a lot of the guys Tyson beat in his prime were past it, Joe fought prime guys and beat them. Tell me, what Frazier fights have you seen? Joe was one of the toughest of all time, Tyson was not even close, his chin is far overrated. Plus, Joe had great defense, when he used the cross-arm. Joe's style was a bit primitive, but at least he proved his chin.

You aren't even starting to make sense. Tyson was champ from 86 to the decade's end, dominated all of those fights and unified. Holmes was champ from the decade's start until 85, failing to unify and almost losing several fights. Tyson took him out.

Tyson was the dominant 80s champ.
