Tyson or Liston: Who was more feared in their generation

Tyson surely?

 

patterson was intimidated for sure
liston was a notorious badman for real but he was in many hard fights before he became champ

tyson blew through everyone coming up and just look at his opponents demenour when they fought him/ most had lost before a punch was thrown.

there were a few
jose ribalta was a genuine tough man /quick tillis a vet / seen it done it.
overall more tyson opponents were more intimidated but liston for his era was considered a brute of a fighter.

funny that a small heavy by todays standards in holyfield actually intimidated tyson .

 

Tyson ducked Foreman.
Liston is the only fighter to make Foreman fight going backwards (during their sparring sessions)

 

I think Liston was feared the most.

Tyson was feared by Spinks, but others were not afraid of him. Evander and Lennox forced Tyson to fight them.

 

In the boxing ring Tyson, hands down.

But in a ghetto/street/mob situation, Liston was probably more feared. Liston was rumored to be connected to the mob and supposedly had people in his entourage with a couple "notches on their belt" (i.e. people who have killed before). Liston's crew was different than the flashy gold chain and diamonds crew Iron Mike was hanging out with. Liston's guys were armed, had lengthy rap sheets, some killed before and didn't mind seriously hurting people.

 

never seen so many fighters who you could actually see were intimidated in the extreme .
tyson scared them / actually scared them before a punch was thrown.

normally most fighters show bravado before a fight
a big percentage of tyson opponents until he fought douglas were intimidated.

 

Liston.

There were people in Tyson's time telling him they weren't scared and that they could lick him. A lot even gave him trash talk. NOBODY did that to Liston. Even Ali was scared of Liston.

 

Jim wicks Coopers manager said he wouldn't let him in the same town as liston .Sonny was feared with good reason .Tyson was regarded by many including me in my youth as unbeatable he had an aura about him good fighters Spinks for instance froze and got destroyed .When buster beat him I couldn't believe it total shock!

 

I read today in "The Murder Of Sonny Liston", that Ali was trash talking and even went to Liston's house several times, trying to bully him. Maybe I misunderstood something though, the wrting style is a bit strange for me.

 

Has to be Tyson however Liston in his time was comparable to old iron mike.

 

He did that for publicity and with a large entourage. There was no chance that Liston and Ali would engage in a physical confrontation. It was in a fight that Ali was scared of Liston.
