Would Tyson have more trouble with any of the fighters that Louis defended his title 25 times against than Louis would with the old former champions and unheralded contenders that Tyson defended against?
It's a case of the sheer volume. That's a lot of defenses to make. Mike's wheels are going to come off before reaching that number. You can insert a name & when he shows up with his B game, there's the loss. Interestingly, Joe was in the service during some of that. W/O that factor, there would be a few more victims and might approach 30.
theres a reason Louis was a top three ATG and Mike never will be top five or even top ten. Thats because Louis had the longevity. Mike would implode at some point.
I agree with Zadfrak, obviously Tyson should and would annihilate the opponents on a H2H basis. But in a real life timeline, he is going to get bored and complacent and start negelecting his training etc. So he will get beaten by a decent fighter for that reason.
I can see Louis smashing Berbick but not as fast as Tyson He would stop Smith late on as Holmes did. Thomas actually does well for a few rounds but gets nailed in the 7 th. He beats tucker on points. Biggs gives him the runaround till about the eighth then Louis destroys him. Holmes wins a number of rounds but gets kod In the sixth Tubb s gets stopped mid round s. Spinks gets kod in the first as he did against Tyson. Bruno takes some shifting and roughs up Joe, but Louis knocks him almost senseless in the 6 th. Williams goes out in the first again. The hardest one is Douglas. I'm going for Joe been out pointed till he catches buster late on and kos him. But it's a tough one.
Tyson on the other hand I see doing well with most opponents of Louis until he meets godoy. Arturo gives him a hard puzzle to solve and Tyson gets frustrated. Tyson wins but only by a tight decision. The rematch he struggles again but catches godoy in the fifth. Billy conn then pulls off the shock of the century by beating Tyson by a split decision. Tyson never gets in to the fight and his life style had caught up with him. In the rematch Tyson stop s a over confident conn early. He s out of the ring a few years due to the war. When he returns mauriello actually hurts Tyson several times until Mike catches him and kos him cold in the third. Time and Jersey Joe catches up with Tyson as Joe drops him several times, the decision is a draw. The rematch sees Tyson lose a wide decision. I believe Tyson s style would have him age faster than joe. He would still be champion through the late forty s but by 1946 he's vulnerable there fore the loss to Walcott.
