He is. But Benavidez needs to make a better case for himself especially among casualfans, which fighting once this year won't do.
It's essentially the Mexican version of Khan vs Brook. Canelo can accept a loss but not to a fellow Mexican. The thought of Benavidez winning then people saying he was greater must haunt him.
He needs to get the **** over it. The worst thing he could possibly do (aside from ducking of course) was opening his big mouth demanding an insane payday for a guy who was both his mandatory and who had called him out multiple times. Now the whole world KNOWS he's worried about losing. This is why boxing needs strict regulation so the best have to fight the best.
