Part technique, part genetics. Nothing in any discipline is 100% technique or genetics. It's always a mixture.

I think it can be developed, but some guys have more than others. Probably a little of both.

I love it when posters try to **** one someone else, but end up reinforcing their point and agreeing with them, without realizing.

You can do things to improve it, but you are born with it or you are not born with it.

I agree...it's fast twitch muscle fibers, which you are born with.

Being a big puncher is like a baseball pitcher who can throw serious heat. you can increase the power like u can the speed with proper technique but its natural talent that allows someone to be able to throw a 99mph fastball just like a puncher who can knock someone out with one punch.

I know it's a gift. Everyone is born with a certain potential, and once you reach it that's all you get.

I always thought the old adage that all of my trainers have said at some point. You can make a soft puncher, a decent puncher, a decent puncher, a good puncher, a good puncher, a very good puncher but Great punchers are born and I'd go with that.

I know some people that don't do any fight training that hit like mules, and i know people that box who can hit harder than otherwise would do for that reason.

Agree. Power can be developed. Hate to disagree with Tyson, but power is not solely a gift, .........in my opinion.......... for whatever that's worth.

I think this sums it up, well. You have to be born with the potential, but what you do with that potential, that *seed* is entirely in the hands of what the fighter does in training, or lack thereof.

essentially heavy hands are a natural gift (see scientific explanation above), ye can tell split second when a boxer hits a pad (or you) whether they have the bang even without much/any training

although can be improved by technique (shifting the weight blah blah) & particular exercise programs - plyo, speed work etc...
