Tyson was a character who was totally lacking in character. He was the boxing version of Anna Nicole Smith/Lindsey Lohan, etal. A human train wreck.

True, the sport lacks cross over personalities. Forget Ali. Never again. But the sport lacks Duran/Hearns/Leonard type charisma. Even if it's only in the ring charisma.

De La Hoya has great popularity but to me he has zero charisma in and out of the ring. Wlad has insane potential but he is lacking in that alpha dog charisma where people want to live through a fighters warrior aggression. With Wlad you feel his fear, his hesitation and his caution.

Kelly Pavlik is tremendous but he also needs to come out of his small town, modest guy shell. Not to be an irritating ego case but bring more verbal aggression, tell people exactly how you're gonna kick anyone's ass who dares to challenge you.

The sport needs fighters who are both the real thing in the ring as well as being self promoting bad asses outside the ring.........without turning people against them.

This may come as a shock to you, but a lot of people liked the boxers you're alluding to depsite what you're reffering to, not as a result of it.

How many boxers do you think are convicted of crimes? How many have the devasting knockout power and speed of Tyson at heavyweight? Or Ali's superhuman defensive acumen and ring movement?

    Think about it.

He doesn't deserve sympathy, but does he really deserve the kind hatred he gets from some people? The man is obviously unbalanced, he is as much a victim of circumstances as the king of england and a crackhead on the streets.

Tyson says boxing needs characters, so what. Why all the hate on him. I love how the Floyd fans get pissed at Tyson although he never mentions nothing about Mayweather:roll:

You hit it dead on with this post, I agree completely. Could you imagine if Zelenoff actually had talent? The guy's youtube videos get thousands of reply's, they find the character interesting in one way or another, when the Zelenoff/Hartley fight was going down, alot of posters claimed they would pay 5 to 10 bucs to view it, pretty good work for a guy that never had a professional fight, and has the punching skills of a novice MMA fighter.

That's definitely an insult to any novice MMA fighter, haha. When Zelenoff punches he's more akin to a drugged, one-legged geriatric. Even that's being rather kind to him, really.

But you're right man, if he had talent...I would definitely tune into every single one of his pro matches, and follow his career with far more interest than a lot of the current fighters. Amazing to see the kind of attention he's managed to build up. He's just entertaining, simple as that.

Oh come on, let the dream die, Zelenoff is the boxing equivalent of the light saber kid. The only reason people keep him around is for the comedy. Nobody really likes him and nobody really dislikes him very much because he is such a joke.

 Outboxer, I seen MMA guys that had the punching skills of a 8 yearold girl, and I'm not kidding either, I was actually laughing at one point and thinking to myself, I havent boxed in a couple years, and definitely not in the fighting shape I once was, but I really do believe I could of beat the guy I seen fight that night, and theres a few others I seen over the years that couldnt punch a hole through a paper bag or hamper(Zelenoff)

Zelenoff will be around for a couple more years, but after he loses enough he will end up retiring, then he will make a comeback which will be short lived. All in all, he will give fans a good laugh, as well as an enertaining couple years.

    End of thread! :good

One minute Tyson says that he has'nt watched boxing for years then the next he's following the sport again.

Someone needs to show fatty the Vasquez Marquez trilogy and all the other awesome boxing matches that happened over the past 2 years while he's been stuffing his face. :-(

Vasquez and Marquez showed more personality and heart in their third fight than Tyson showed in his career.

All true fans care about is how the fighter's perform in the ring and eveything else is just bull****!

I must admit, this was utter gold, especially the last round of the last fight.

You couldn't have made it any more dramatic if it was scripted. Pure warriors.

You would'nt last 5 minutes with some of the worst guys from TUF.

Stop disrespecting MMA and realise that boxing is just one martial art, and actually one of the weakest when you are up against someone who knows multiple arts and a ground game.

Move with the times instead of acting like your grandad who does'nt know **** all about the sweet science of "fighting".

Saturday night BJ Penn and Sean Sherk are fighting for the UFC Lightweight title. Both these guy's would hand Floyd and a Prime De La Hoya their asses in the same night!

If you dont know this then you're an arrogant ***** or just stupid!

There's more to being a master at fighting other than just being a master at using your fists.

BJ Penn is a master of BJJ and i would pick him to easily hand Floyd his ass with just his BJJ alone.

Sean Sherk is a master wrestler and i'd pick him to easily hand a prime Oscar hsi ass with nothing but wrestling.

Boxing is a weak marital art when you are going up against ground specialists, especialy ones who have added other martial arts to their game like Penn and Sherk have.

Yes, let us form a universal standard and dictate how 'true fans' must think. Very smart.
