Here's Mike Tyson telling the truth about the Holyfield fights. 2:20 onwards [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpYCHzs6BLM&feature=channel[/ame]
He made similar statements on Oprah as well. I think his managers at the time, if you wanna call them that, fed Mike the headbutt excuse.
Definitely. After the first fight Tyson said the same thing, "He was butting me, but I was butting him too. He's just a great fighter", then in the months leading up to the rematch his people had twisted it into a full-blown excuse. So when Tyson lost his cool and bit in the rematch. He just went make to the ready-made excuse. I always thought Tyson really bit because he just got frustrated that he threw his best combinations and Holyfield just kept coming, and here he admits it. Real shame he had those assholes around him, but as he admits he was the biggest ******* for a long time too. He's a great guy.
I agree. It's just a shame that certain people remember him only for the Bite Fight. He's definitely making a better name for himself.
As brutally honest as Mike has been in recent times the one thing he's never recanted was innocence. I grew up in the Tyson era and he was a special fighter than led me to start watching boxing. For many people, he was the special fighter that made them continue watching boxing. He's become a prodigal son of sorts; his transgressions have been overlooked because of his entertainment value and exploited because of his entertainment value.
The hardcore Tyson apologist have always gone to the butt excuse for the reason Holyfield beat Tyson..... .......Tyson cant put it any more simpler than he did in that interview......."I was butting him too, I was just mad things were'nt going my way." ......where the apologist would say Tyson was winning the 3rd round and had no other reason but the butts to bite Holyfied......here's Tyson himself saying he lost his mind because he's a spoiled brat that was'nt having things go his way. Let these bull**** butt excuses end......Mike Tyson himself is sharing to us why he bit Holyfield, and it has everything to do with Evander Holyfield's greatness.
Tyson was not himself in either Holyfield fight and his stamina was poor but that was a great win in the first fight for Holyfield. It's hard not to like Tyson now as he seems to have become wiser and admit to his mistakes more.
No more so than Tyson, Lewis and Bowe, his foremost contemporaries. And probably less dirty than the great old-time legends like Harry Greb and Jack Dempsey.
