Nice article john. I agree with you to an extent, but I can't see Tyson dealing with a prime foreman.
Foreman was a problem, definitely...buit realize that although he was a "monster" back in 1974, the dimensions Foreman carried (6 ft 3, 224 pounds) made him smaller than Ruddock, Tucker, etc etc...perhaos Tyson wouldnt be as outgunned as many would instinctively believe??
Tyson 'controversially' lost two fights with Henry Tillman, so didnt make the Olympics. Did you see those fights of Tillman-Tyson and were they controversial results?
well, many say they were because he 8 counted Henry but Henry boxed effectively...I wouldnt say ROBBERY, no...
Great read mate. Agree Tyson was one of the best HW ever, who else has totally iced a divion like that? Only Louis, ALi, Tyson and Rocky have totally dominated the HW divison. Johnson did not, Dempsey did not fight his number 1 contender & was inactive, Larry did not unify, Lewis fought old version of Holyfield and Tyson even though I don't hold him to blame along with Bowe, Holyfield made a number of good boxers seem better than they were. The K2 bros would fight each other (which I can understand). Who has totally dominated a divison like that?
Thanks, IceJohnSCUlly, good read. To have witnessed a prime Mike Tyson is one of the greatest privileges of my life; his under-rated elusiveness, the speed of his combinations, the intelligence of his shots (right hook body, right uppercut head), his chilling killer instinct... This is one of those great what-could-have-beens. Wasn't there hearsay that even Mike didn't want to go up against Big George Mark II? Personally, I think Mike could've taken on young George in a 50/50 fight (depends on who lands the biggest shot, and Mike has way faster hands than Foreman). Conversely, a more defensive-minded old George with those big-ass mummy outstretched hands would 'entangle' Tyson's shots more and would have more chance of gutting it out for a decision. All IMO of course. I think he could even spark out Wlad and his chinny jaw. Vitali on the other hand:think
Great article, and i have to say that i agree with it all.... Mike Tyson was the fastest, most dangerous heavyweight i have ever seen... Just look at this weekends heavyweight event in germany... Everybody would like a non stop action fighting KO punching fighter that tyson was... i Surely miss him....
we all have to admit, love him or hate him, the heavyweight division was EXCITING with him in it!! Especially when he was champ...his fights were EVENTS...
