Louis at the time of the second Schmeling Fight against Tyson at the time of the Spinks Round 1 KO Which was the most impressive performance? Which of the two athletes (Assuming you could compare them on their performances on those single days) would have been greater on an All-time H2H list. and basic H2H, obviously.
Louis is more impressive since Schmeling was the more proven heavyweight compared to Spinks and had already a win over Louis while Spinks was scared. Louis again because see above.
H2H Tyson, better boxing skill, quicker, better balance, better defence, better footwork, less mistakes and even a better jab too. Most impressive performance? I'd go with Tyson. Better opponent, maybe Schmelling, hard to say Didn't his trainer say he wasn't scared? I don't know but I'd expect Schmelling to be pretty intimidated by the hostile American crowd clamouring for his blood
Probably go with the Tyson one, mainly because for Max to fight in such a hostile environment, with his wife basically under threat of arrest back in Germany, well let's just say he was probably not very focussed and probably quite intimidated by the whole affair.
Tysonbeingknowledgable about boxing history would he respect or fear Louiss skills?Absolutely not Tyson ko the defense speed powerand chin would be too much all respect in the world to joe
Tyson's movement and angles get Louis' feet tangled up and off balance... then, he simply outmoderns him.
Both men are the two best combination punchers with the fastest hands in the division's history in my opinion... The difference in power is splitting hairs, handspeed and punching accuracy is splitting hairs, but Tyson had a much better chin and overall durability. I also don't think Louis had the wheels or the jabbing style to outbox Tyson per the concensus opinion that lateral movement, a great jab, and clinching goes a long way towards beating Tyson. I do think Louis could time Tyson's head movement with his hooks and uppercuts, and I also think if you let Louis put them hands on you 2 or 3 times in a combination, he's gonna hurt you, and I don't care who you are. I disagree with Louis having poor balance and not as good as Tyson's... Remember also, that Tyson's great KO percentage plummets to like 65% in title fights, so the numbers don't necessarily point to a quick KO of Louis... It could go either way. I think Louis is smart enough not to get blown out, not to mention the fact he'd earn respect with his own accurate counters and punching in general. I view Louis' chin much like Trinidad's: he could be dropped, not because of balance, but because of a "chin" issue, but was rarely hurt by the knockdown and always got up to kick the guy's ass. Most of the time, they showed a good ability to take hard punches. I used to think this would be a total annihilation, but based on Tyson's record in title fights and top opposition, plus the fact that Louis was really the complete package, my thoughts waver. I could see either winning and see this as a 50-50.
I think that Louis's win is slightly better, since Schmeling is a top 30 (arguably top 20) all time heavyweight. Head to head I favour Louis also. Using a come forward strategy against Louis is prety muchg suicide.
Louis had too many tools, combinations, after some early rushing by Tyson he feels some of Louis's combo's and starts to fall into a more defensive mode, Louis may hit the deck early but gets up to start the combo's I think Joe takes him out before 5 but absolutely before 8
