Surprising ? yes i would think it would be the Heavyweight champion being dropped and winning a controversial decision to an MMA fighter making his pro debut. If this was any other past Heavyweight with the same circumstances you would be bringing it up to discredit them, but because it's Fury who's a "modern Heavyweight" it's just "surprising".

No mate it's not surprising it's an outright embarrassment and the biggest embarrassment in boxing history.

Again you say this all the time and yet how exactly is the general standard gone up ? most of Heavyweights are in their late 30s early 40s and are inactive.

How are fighters like Ruiz, Hrgovic, Chisora, Whyte, Ortiz, Zhang, Joyce, better than some of the notable Heavyweights of the past ?

Even the top guys like Wilder, Fury, have looked very beatable despite a paper thin resume.

You base alot of arguments on size but that's not how it works, you rate a fighter on their resume also and how they stylistically match up with other Heavyweights.

Usyk is the size of 70s/80s Heavyweight yet he's able to thrive in this current era based on his skills, he doesn't have power to bail him out vs bigger guys which basically discredits all this nonsense about size.

You want me to school you on Mike Tyson ? ok i'll give you a genuine reply.

    Mike Tyson

    12 world title wins with 10 KO's

10 wins against top 10 ranked opponents how many does Fury have ? yeah exactly.

    Youngest Heavyweight champion in history.

Cleaned up Heavyweight division in just a few years.

    Best Wins

    Razor Ruddock x2
    Michael Spinks
    Larry Holmes
    Frank Bruno x2
    Carl Williams
    Pinklon Thomas
    Tony Tucker
    Trevor Berbick

Was the only fighter to stop two ATG's in Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, who had over 100 fights between them and 39 championship fights.

    Hello young un.
There's an intangible you left out.
Mike Tyson had unusually fast hands and fast feet and was EXCEPTIONAL at closing distance.
He'd touch Fury and touch him often.
There isn't much difference in height between Ribalta or Tucker or Fury (who's not 6.9)
I could see a Carl Williams type of Tyson KO.
    And I'm no Tyson fan.

Weird that you get to decide what I do and do not find surprising.

Increasing size is indicative of selection processes occurring, implying that intangible and difficult to measure qualities have likely also increased.

Irrelevant question begging, not an argument.

Irrelevant when comparing cross era H2H. You always do this, a fighter can be a legend in his own time, I'm not saying he ain't.

Again size is indicative, not the be all and end all necessarily.

    It doesn't.

This post fails to consider the fact Mike Tyson was a genetic freak and a once in a generation athlete. The athletes today competing in boxing are objectively far worse, with more and more choosing other sports such as basketball over boxing. I picked Fury to win a decision but I simply cannot see him stopping him let alone destroying him. Beating an ageing Klitschko and a dangerous but limited Wilder does not make you unbeatable.

It's true, prime Fury is far from unbeatable I just think he'd wreck Mike.

There are plenty of 90s fighters who'd give Fury a far tougher test, like Buster Douglas!
