And just when it couldn't get any better folks we're getting comparisons drawn between Tyrell Biggs and the great Muhammad Ali.

Whats your problem with it? The 80's were filled with Ali like impersonators. Being inspired by Ali doesn't mean you are Ali.

Manny Stewart drew comparisons between Williamson and Ali when he was boxing circles around Wlad.

Don't worry Wlad , he's no Ali , he can't move like this all night - verbatim .

Bet you're feeling stupid right now :meparto::cbiggrin:

When people here post about prime Mike and how he was a monster it's always the Spinks demolition, but just eight months before that he was struggling to tag a tall and limited hw who was ko'd quicker by Damiani and Mason in his next two bouts.

Yeah there's just the few slight differences in that the tall limited fighter in question actually "trained" for Tyson and not those other two guys, was working with a far better team, wasn't coming off any layoffs and who's lifestyle outside the ring was a bit cleaner. But other than that sure, everything else is the same

He didn't train for Damiani and Mason? Okay.

Its well documented that his career went down the tubes after the Duvas dumped him. He never again worked with a reputable trainer and took extended time off prior to fighting Damiani and Mason. With the Mason fight in particular, he had only seen one fight on two years and had lost both of his last two outings.. In January of 1990 - just 3 months after losing to Mason and 15 months after losing to Damiani, I watched him face an old Ossie Ocasio.. You could have watched two boarding school girls have a pillow fight and it would have been more entertaining..

Tyson wasn't fighting a perfect fight that night, he was fighting a brutal fight.

Tyson stalked Biggs like a masked killer stalks the virgin in a slasher flick on a Friday on Halloween night somewhere on Elm Street. Absolutely gruesome display of superiority and one other main factor - REVENGE.

I don't think you can honestly find any fault in Tyson's performance against Biggs.
At the time by those who where there it served as evidence of his potential dominance of the division.
He crushed Biggs! Biggs was never the same. He dominated and then punished him.

Yet it is now used as indicative of his ineffectiveness. This is an example of why ctoss generational comparisons become pointless.

Tyson claimed to have carried Biggs to punish him. Not sure if that was the truth but either way it was a very one-sided fight. Biggs showed nothing really, except bravery.
Biggs was never a convincing contender anyway. A faded David Bey almost ripped his face off a few months earlier. Biggs was already on the decline, despite only 15 professional fights.
They cashed him in against Tyson before he lose to any bum.

Not buying that, he lasted a full seven rounds. How would you class Tyson Spinks if Tyson Biggs was a 'total destruction'? Wladimir had a far tougher time than Biggs verses Sanders but he came back to be second all time in championship fights. In my view Biggs just wasn't very good and Tyson just always struggled with tall fighters not called Frank Bruno. Wladimir in prime condition would have beaten 87-89 Mike pretty comfortably.

Tyrell's career was going down way before he split with the Duvas.
He was in rehab for cocaine and alcohol problems after his pro debut, so his whole pro career was like a desperate comeback, and he peaked in his 9th and 10th pro fights.

Indeed. That and his skills never fully developed beyond the amateurs. Ten years into his pro career he was still making the kinds of mistakes that young prospects make. But prior to the Tyson defeat and when the Duvas were still managing him, there was at least some hope. After 1987 he was relegated to gate keeper status.
