Which brings up the question of why would anyone want to see it. Similar to wanting to see Tyson up against Texas Cobbs or the Bayone Bleeder.

Bonavena was certainly durable enough to go the distance with a prime Tyson.

One of them could get disqualified, though,as it may get quite dirty at times.

The only ones who went the distance are those that could move and/or hold on for dear life. Bonavena would be taking too many clean punches and in combinations

In what way? Was watching Ali getting massacred by Holmes fun for you as well or is that a personal exception?

At that stage of the game Tyson really didn't need to put together any combinations since one shot would usually do the job. Additionally his attitude in the ring was murderous. Knowing full well the dangers involved in boxing and knowing full well that Marvis Frazier was out cold with the first shot and on his way down he landed several more full-force shots anyway just for fun. So if you fought Tyson at that time with his gloating about wanting to smash a person's brains through his skull, you knew that he was really in the ring not just to win, but to kill you in the ring if possible.

Placing a punching bag like Bonavena in front of him might just have led to that result.

Notice that instead of showing immediate concern for the totally unconscious Frazier, Tyson starts rabidly growling, snarling and shouting and strutting instead.

    Reminds me of this:

I don't think Holmes was really trying to hurt Ali he looked like he was holding back. He just was doing enough to win.

Tyson was rabidly growling? At the 3:19 mark you see Tyson on the left hand side of the video rushing over to help Marvis to his feet. You can hear Lampley - "Tyson goes over to take a look at Marvis Frazier, obviously quite concerned..."

Unfortunately Mike was blocked out by the others in the ring attending Marvis.

Wasn't till after he checked in that he started celebrating excessively. I don't think any of it matters because fighters are there to kill their opponents.

I hate to say no but the chance is slim he could win.....Tyson was bigger and faster than prime Frazier and hit alot harder with combos

The better fight to ponder is Bonavena vs Marciano the same height and both award and strong and powerful

There are fighters who would not have delivered those devastating two unecessary shots while an opponent is falling unconscious to the canvas and only being prevented by the ropes as was the case with Benny Kid Paret who was killed exactly because of this same modus operandi.

Ali called over the Referee when he noticed that Ron Lyle was out on his feet. Witherspoon let the opponent finish falling unconscious because as he himself explained during post-fight interview,: "You never know!".

Also, Tyson did repeatedly say he wanted to force an opponent's brains through the back his head. The statement even offended an African American interviewer who told Tyson to be a man.

Yes, he did very briefly check his handiwork before commencing to celebrate profusely while Frazier was still being examined. But that in no way nullifies lading two extra potentially lethal blows to the head when it was obvious that his opponent was helpless and out cold. so I guess we disagree on that.

Wepner and Tex Cobbs didn't display the athleticism necessary to accomplish that feat against Tyson in his prime. So why would anyone insist on placing them in front of Tyson?

    BTW
Fights are usually of interest in relation to juggernauts such as a prime Tyson when a reasonable chance for an upset or a close contest is involved. That's one reason why the Stilverne vs Wilder fight is being called unnecessary and no one wants to see another boring repeat of the same lopsided contest.

    Which part?

    1. That unnecessary blows can cause death in the ring?

    2. That Ali motioned to the ref to stop the fight with Lyle?

    3. That Witherspoon refrained from adding injury to an unconscious opponent on the way down?

    4. That Tyson said he wanted to bludgeon opponents' brains through the back of their skulls?

    5. That uncompetitive fights involving massacres are considered boring because of being too one-sided?

    6. That Tex Cobbs and The Bayone Bleeder posed no threat to a prime Tyson?

    7. That prime Tyson vs Bonavena is an obvious mismatch?
