Tyson by ko. Bowe had no defence and was already brain damaged and finished. Tyson KO 2. Lewis would KO both these fools who happened to be ducking him at the time.

No he wouldn't, never been ko'd in his career and Tyson of 96 wouldn't have done it.

I think Bowe would have beaten Tyson pretty much anytime post Douglas or definitely post prison. Any tactic which involved trying to finish off Riddick Bowe with one big shot just wasn't going to cut it.

This is a tough call, both of these guys were on the downside in 1997, Tyson was mentally broke from the Holyfield fights, and Bowe was broken physicaly from the Holyfield, then the Golota fights....

I would lean a little.more Tysons way, but if the fight went deep there's that chance of Tyson having a meltdown or temper tantrum, and getting DISQUALIFIED..

Bowe took such a brutal beating in the 2nd Golota fight in December 1996, i doubt he could have passed the physical to get a boxing license in 1997, his legs were jello, he was slurring his speech really bad, and he had no trainer Futch left him...

That's why Bowe retired and enlisted into the Marines, because he knew he was finished as a boxer...

Tyson had more left by 96. Before that though I'd say that Bowe wins.

Very difficult to judge the Tyson of '97. He looked good physically, but looked awful in the fight as a direct result of the first fight. Very tentative....until the third round anyway.

Tyson of '96 is a bad fight for a shot Bowe, once Tyson hurts Bowe he doesn't let him off the hook. As far past his best as he was, he hadn't lost the desire to tear your head off if he hurt you.

Bowe climbs off the canvas a few times before the ref waves it off in round 6.

I wasnt talking about Bowe, i was talking about Golota.

In your previous post you said

So i said no way would Golota beat Tyson, he would have got knocked out or stopped on his feet

Tyson caught Golota with his best shot and he got up instantly, he was never in serious trouble in the fight. If the man wasn't such a nutcase he would have got the better of Mike in the later rounds.

I've just re-read the thread and I've got my wires crossed. I misread your first post mentioning Tyson would hit Bowe with harder shots than Golota did, I interpreted it like Tyson would hit Bowe harder than he did Golota.

Golota and Tyson are completely different fighters so just because Golota hit and hurt Bowe with certain shots doesn't mean Tyson would do the same.

I personally don't rate post prison Mike much. He was all flash but no substance. He looked great against guys like Bruno but get him past the 4th round and he was done for, he really wasn't the same. I liken that Tyson to a bit of a con man, he lived from his past successes and made a career out of making people believe he could do it all again. May sound harsh but i was burnt as a fan when he came back. Still a big fan of Mike's now though but I am more realistic these days when assessing him.

I could easily see Bowe out willing Mike 97, he dam near died refusing to lose against Golota in the rematch even though he was a shell. That kind of determination could overcome post prison Tyson, once he mid way through the fight Bowe could take him out down the line. I kind of agree that if Golata lasted a few more rounds before imploding he could have possibly won down the line, to Mike's credit he did land a few good punches but there was something really vulnerable looking about him in those days, like he could be discouraged by any small success his opponent had. He pretended not to look relieved at the end on the Golota fight, doing the macho act but I felt he was probably relieved.

So this one is a Bowe win imho.

Same here, Tysons whole post prison career was a big con.

Just by reading some of the magazines of the time you can see Tyson became seriously overrated.

I think the romanticising came from Tysons absence due to his prison sentence and with no one able to replicate what Tyson had done in the 80's. all this talk about Tysons lack of heart and other stuff came out after the bite fight.

The problem is, Tysons actions/inactions post prison cast a shadow over his whole career.

Pre Prison Tyson was a great fighter with a record of 41-1-0

Post Prison Tyson was a cardboard cut out living off past glories with a record of something like 10-6-2

id pick bowe .as the two previous posters have stated tyson was a fraud post prison whos heart was no longer in the game .prime for prime though 86_ 88 tyson would have wiped the floor with bowe .
