Don't feel too bad. I was already 65 when Tyson lost to Douglas. (Sigh!)

You are right...Douglas seemed to be going off the ref's count, but you could just as easily say that the ref was going off Douglas' actions. No matter how many times I watch it, I still think that his count was slow and inept. When Douglas got up, his gloves weren't even wiped off. But you can't deny one of my points...another ref, and Douglas would have been counted out, or the fight would have been waved off.

65? Wow. Now I assume you're either 84 or 85...and still going strong! You're the type of person I'd love to sit down and talk boxing with!

    Exactly. :good:good

Mike lost the Douglas fight outside of the ring. Even if Buster got counted out in the 8th, Mike was still headed for that "incomprehensible" upset soon, no matter what.

He no longer had the intangibles outside of the ring that kept his raw talent & ability as sharp and effective as they were before Douglas. His life out of the ring was no longer conducive to him being at his very best.

Boy did he shine brightly with Rooney + Cus minus Givens + King. :-( That Tyson could potentially beat any heavyweight in history.

i wrote this blog titled "the fight that made me a boxing fan 4 life"...here it is..

What fight made you a boxing fan for life?? Alot of people love the art of boxing for different reasons...some love the one punch knockouts, some love competative thinking, some like the athleticism, blood thirsties loooove the brutal wars, some love comebacks, others love ''rags to riches" stories, others love the hype...but what made ME love the sport....was UPSETS!!! cuz you expect to push over a so-called "bum" just to use him as a stepping stone to get better paying fights...alot of times the man your looking over is a starving man with a starving family, with an awful record, sometimes they find something within themselves that they never knew was there... big upsets like CORBETT VS. SULLIVAN... (the banker beats the bar room brawler)..BEAR VS. BRADDOCK (the poor guy beats the knockout artist)...FOREMAN VS. MOORE (the old fart knocks out the champ in one punch)...but the fight that made me a fight fan for life was the BIGGEST upset in the history of boxing....BUSTER DOUGLAS TKO'S MIKE TYSON... MIKE TYSON was "Untouchable" and very "Deadly"...leaving a trail of knockout victims, hand picked or not, TYSON was explosive, strong, young...I mean betting wise , DOUGLAS was a 42-1 underdog...thats a ****ing lot!! DOUGLAS was somewhat mediocre...he always had a shaky chin and was never really a devistating puncher...so he was supposed to be a sitting duck for TYSON'S arsenal..no more than 2 rounds were expected...I was around 8 years old....and TYSON was like a superman who never lost.. even his video game "Mike Tyson's Punch Out" was still popular...I mean I grew up watching boxing back in the 80's but THIS particular fight really took the cake.. TYSON was so confident about knocking out DOUGLAS early that he didnt even bring a cutman or swelling devices.. he was even partying the night before with japanese chicks.. mean while DOUGLAS was trying to get over his mom's recent departure...and something about that made me think that DOUGLAS was gonna be extra motivated...THATS RIGHT..i was sensing an upset without even knowing it...a little voice told me that his mom was gonna help him win tonight... really deep...the bell rang!! DOUGLAS wasnt scared!! he kept TYSON at the end of his jabs and didnt show one ounce of fear towards tha Unbeatable man...TYSON kept it competative as he would land bombs of his own...after a few rounds, TYSON seemed to slow down just a notch and DOUGLAS seemed to be finding a weakness in TYSON...TYSON'S eye started to swell but since the cutman wasnt available, they got a ridiculous waterballoon-glove and tryed to decrease the swelling...DOUGLAS was all over TYSON and in the back of my mind I said "why did I know this was gonna happen??" cuz I thought that no matter what, the "STARS" should never loose to nobodies...and in round 8 , DOUGLAS ducked it and TYSON landed a devistating right uppercut that usually knocks out other people and dropped DOUGLAS flat on his back...I was like "**** yeah !! stay down stay down!!! DOUGLAS looked as if to say "damm, ma' I messed up" but as he got up the bell rang and saved him...what a round...but DOUGLAS still wasnt scared, not only did he pull a comeback, but he was dominating TYSON with his 1-2's...pinning TYSON against the ropes..then in round 10...TYSON runs out and lands a big right hand that stuns DOUGLAS and then the underdog kept jabbing away to stay out of TYSON'S bombs then DOUGLAS shot 4 jabs and followed it with a neckbreaking uppercut that was followed by a brutal, brutal left right left on the way down.. TYSON, wobbley, searches for his mouthpiece as if it was a contact lense, puts it in his mouth wrong and as he arose his eyes rolled to the back of his skull and the ref stopped the fight... WOW!!!! his mom was there all along for BUSTER...the impossible happend LIVE infront of my eyes...my first live payperview fight, my first comeback, and my first upset!!! TYSON'S invincible cloak was gone and the man who was a janitor the previous month, was now the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION of the world who "Knocked out MIKE TYSON"...It gave me a sense of hope, a sense of "I can do anything I want if I put my heart in it and if I believe in myself that much...made me realize that ANYBODY can be great"...what a story..from then on, boxing became my religion cuz I never felt so spiritual before and the only other time I felt that way was when CORRALES TKO'd CASTILLO... so let me know what fights made this type of impact on your life that changed you in alot of ways...and THAT was the Fight that made me a Boxing Fan...

Had trouble remembering if it was 91 or 90, I guess I was actually 8. What's that? 3rd grade or something?

I'm 7-8 years old at the time and off course I thought it was going to be an easy win for Tyson, but somehow even after getting floored, douglas ended up winning by KO
instantly I'm looking forward for douglas next bout as a champion but that was it... he was easily floored by Holyfield

I was eight years old but I already was a huge Tyson fan. Saw it on the news and I was quite shocked. I thought he was invincible.

Ha. Funny nite. I was a teenager at the time and we were in a strip joint. The fight was on, but for obvious reasons we weren't watching it for the most part. And then down goes Tyson. The place erupted and suddenly everyone was glued to the tv. Nobody could get over the shock that Mike Tyson had just gotten KTFO.

Nobody was watching the girls anymore, who were cool with it at first, but then got all pissy because no one was paying attention to them and slipping bills into their thongs.
